His Instagram is amazingly sad to review - there is no doubt those close to him tried their best to help him but that degree of mental illness doesnt give a lot of options. Very sad for his young son to not have a father as well. RIP

Hope you manage to continue to get the help you need.

Great that you have gotten the right treatment, medical advice, etc to manage your health. Being able to talk about it openly is a strong move.

Sadly healthcare and society as a whole fail so many afflicted with this medical condition. The stigma still attached to mental illness is one of the problems. Mental illness is the same as any medical condition yet still viewed in a different and negative lens by so many.

RIP Matt.

RIP Matt.
Its also a different animal in that unless the patient shows a clear and ongoing threat to himself and others then you cant force him to get treatment. People with heart problems or lung problems readily seek help but a person like Matt who suffers from paranoid delusions is incapable of seeking help.

One thing with certain mental illnesses; they make the brain super, super, super overactive.

The upside is that sometimes, they're incredibly able at managing technically tedious things like odds, or computer code, etc. The downside, delusions. Creating elaborate scenarios and then believing them.

Terry O Davis was another one- a genuises genius who recently died homeless on a railroad track, because his delusions were just too obvious and strong to allow him to live a normal, well adjusted life.

i didn't know Matt personally but from what i've gathered from his online presence i unfortunately cannot say i'm surprised by the news. RIP Matt.

after reading through his instagram it seems he was battling for shared custody of his son (who turned 1 a coupe weeks ago). he was set to appear in court today... i guess he didn't have it in him and took the only way out he felt he had. sad.

Marafioti was staying with his friend at 200 Winston Drive after a breakup forced him to move from his apartment overlooking the George Washington Bridge in neighboring Fort Lee, those who knew him said.
He apparently thought his perceived pursuers "were coming to get him” when he panicked and jumped, a law enforcement official with direct knowledge of the incident told Daily Voice.
Two young lifeguards were alone at the pool next door at 100 Winston Drive, the official said, when they heard Marafioti's screams, then saw his body. Both were later offered counseling.
he committed suicide on friday the 13th. this post must have been made just moments before leaping out of the window to his death. eerie!

Feel bad for anyone who tried to help him. Especially his parents who seemed to have tried very very hard to help him

Honestly, I think MM should have been held against his will and medicated.. Refusing medication against unanimous expert opinion is always a loser.. Seen this first hand.

Some experience dealing with someone with cocaine psychosis.. Scary stuff and the delusions were like "Truman Show" level in the large cast and planning required

Looks like it might be Terry A Davis altho I had never heard of him before you mentioned... Thx for enlightening me as his story is fascinating

Terry seemed to acknowledge his illness and had a rational reason for not medicating

Who lived at that address? Don't want name, just descriptor

And the poor hospital taxi driver... He either only met MM once or twice (maybe he brought gift by later) or he was trying to help MM

wasn't he in some funny hand during the WSOP with AA, or something? Where he basically was so nervous and happy he won? Or lost? I can't remember exactly...

it seems the taxi driver and the friend he was staying at is the same person - Ricardo Carlini.

Masta, thx... That was my weak working assumption

Poor guy... I'm 100% certain he was trying to help MM even if there was financial angle (i.e. Renting)

Shouldn't have been alone with his son

Still don't see how he was in USA permanently... Obv. An American parent would suffice but doubt that's the case here.... Enter as tourist and never leave?

RIP, such a sad story. My only interaction with Matt was about 11 years ago at PokerStars NAPT-Venetian Main Event. We played at same table for awhile, and I could tell he was a gifted, amazing player. This was when he was absolutely balling and crushing the online cash games as ADZ124, and one table mate, also a high-stakes player, told Matt when he sees him sit down, he leaves the table, he was that good in the day.

Condolences to his family and Jenny, who now has a 1yr old son to raise without a father. In time, I hope she'll met someone nice who'll be able to fill that role in Sammy's life.

Matt had made a couple YouTube channels, one with videos ~5yrs old, the other with recordings posted just in the past month, which give an indication to his mental condition at the time.

Was surprised the YT videos were still there...

And I'd add that MM had Obama and Hillary after him at one point

And Drake, IIRC.

Such a sad story. He was brash and a bit of an ass, but from many peoples' accounts, quite a pleasant guy when having a one on one conversation with him.
