Nolan Dalla just asked for a moment of silence before kicking off today's event for the late John Bonetti. Bonetti passed away last night at the age of 79 and held three bracelets, two for 2-7 NL Lowball, and one for Pot Limit Hold'em. Bonetti had over 90 cashes and had tournament earnings over 2.6 million.

I would guess for his manner he would often rip into dealers. He had alot of "Men" in him.

no because he was a rude, self-centered scumbag, and i am surprised anyone is upset he's gone considering how little he cared about anyone else. i've never seen ANYONE berate a dealer and get hostile and use profane language... in a charity tournament. and a freeroll at that.

He was also one of Hellmuth's closest friends iirc.

I remember him when he was calling out the correct community cards to help his opponents during a wsop event a few years ago.

Quite the character..

Underneath, most poker players will tell you his heart was made of gold. Away from the table he was the tops, and backed alot of down in their luck players.

You obviously don't know him too well. His table antics are not news to anybody here.

My favorite John Bonetti quote.

On Phil Hellmuth's 11 WSOP bracelets: "What are they? Eight inches long? He could string them all together and wear them as a headband."

Am I right in thinking that he holds the record for biggest ever stack at end of day 1 in WSOP ME?

I'm sure I've read that one year (1990?) that he had 500,000 at end of day 1 and that was when they had much fewer runner. Think he came 3rd.

I was just looking for an article on CP or Bluff and I can't find anything. Is there confirmation of his death?

"whether you liked him or not, show some respect for the recent departed"

Departed trash deserves the same total and utter lack of respect as it does in life. Just because Mommy and Daddy taught you to respect God and stand for the anthem and speak only kindly of asshats who are finally and thankfully gone doesn't mean you should push any of those things as if everyone must universally follow.

Bonetti is famous for knocking himself out in 3rd place in the ME in the mid-nineties. Him and Jim Bechtel had massive chips stacks and Glen Cozen had only about 100,000 left. The blinds were like 20,000-40,000. Bonnetti holding AK got into it with Bechtel who I believe was holding pocket sixes. The flop was K6X. Bonetti managed to get all his chips iin against Bechtel.

You should have seen the look on Cozen's face. Bonetti was out, then Cozen was out on the next hand.

It was like a $300,000 mistake on Bonetti's part. It's known as one of the most boneheaded moves in poker history.

Poker was his job- Bobby Cox has the record for getting thrown out of baseball games but he's a nice guy away from the job. You guy's need to seperate personal from business.

I'll never forget John. Back in 1992 or 1993 I was playing a tournament at Commerce. Ya I know way back in the day. Anyway, we were down to four tables and I get involved in a pot with Men the Master. I raise AQ off in early position and Men calls and every else folds. Flop K7x. I checked and Men checked. Turn card was a 10 and I checked again and Men bet a little. I called. River was no help to me and I checked once again. Men bet again and I was contemplating a call. I look at Men, counted out the call without pushing the chips forward but just pulling the call aside so I could see what it would cost me and what I'd have left. Then I look at Men and ask if he has anything trying to get some sort of read when Bonetti shouts out "HE CALLED, SEE HE PULLED HIS CHIPS ASIDE, THAT'S A CALL, MAKE HIM PUT THE CHIPS IN THE POT!" Here I was 22 years old at the table with John Bonetti and Men the Master etc. and I was getting railroaded. They called Jack McClelland over and made up every lie they possibly could to try to get the kid's chips forced into the middle of the pot when all I was doing was thinking about the situation before I folded. Men showed me after the hand that he had flopped a set and I was very happy I mucked. Anyway, from that point on I always hated John Bonetti. RIP John you miserable blankety blank blank blank!!!!
