RIP Mr. Brunson.

I was incredibly fortunate to play at the same WSOP table once back in the day. I understand that Howard Lederer has his famous card protector left to him.

You will be missed in so many ways.

Nice hand, sir . . .

RIP to the Godfather of Poker, Big Papa, Texas Dolly, and the man who gave No Limit Texas Hold'em its nickname (the Cadillac of Poker): Doyle Brunson. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.

I think we can all use a little bit of classic PAD intro with voiceover from the man himself:

Started watching High Stakes Poker , started at season 1 now on season 6. Every episode Doyle was in you could see he was in a league of his own, fun to watch, looking forward to the rest of the series. Thanks Doyle, R.I.P. 10/2

Past claims by Doyle:

Claims to have won 54 sessions in a row following the neck surgery he had as a young man.

Claims to have once played poker for 5 straight days, only taking breaks for dinner and restroom breaks.

Claims to have been on the business end of a loaded gun 5 times in his life.

doyle was a friend, although not a close friend for 50 years. last time i saw him was in montana and remember him saying " ray we are the last two of the old time players left alive. the rest all died young."
i believe i am the only one left that was present at the 1970 wsop that was a player.

doyle was known for keeping his word. and always paying without a word and winning graciously. anyone that knew him never had a bad word to say.

i will miss him and his visits to montana. and playing high stakes poker many many times with doyle through the decades, and he usually got the best of me.
condolences to his family and friends.

Great post Ray Zee. That’s amazing and yet must feel a little weird knowing you’re the last man standing from the original 1970 WSOP (when you all voted on the “winner”, right?). It’d sure be great if you felt so inclined to visit this thread and post any stories, anecdotes, remembrances, and experiences you had along the journey with Doyle. I’m sure you’d have a very welcoming readership here.
