For anyone seriously considering Thailand, be sure to also check out the Philippines.

Thailand long term visas are a PITA, in the Philippines you just go in and get it renewed every two months, and once every two years you have to do a quick hop out of the country.

Livings costs are pretty much the same.

btw, shouldn't we have a backup site ready just in case? It would be hard to have a clone of 2+2, but some sort of backup that can handle chats or something might be good to have ready.

A couple of people have quoted bits that imply that 2+2 could be effed with. Wouldn't hurt to have some sort of plan ready if the hammer suddenly drops again.

This an obvious move by the gov't to control internet poker business. They claim the illegality of it all (the companies were forced into any illegal acts imo), but they'll run the same thing for their own profit soon. The players are an afterthought; they're only necessary to squeeze the money out of as the gov't claims that they're looking out for us.

Good luck to all of the pros who are the most hurt by all of this.

This aggression will not stand!

The US thanks you guys for the hefty contribution to our national deficit. It would not surprise me in one bit if the U.S. government ceased all funds. It would be a terrible form of theft but it wouldn't surprise me at all it is the U.S. government after all.

if stars or ft go bust from this nobody will get all of their money back. i understand that both sites have many players from outside the us however any business, would find it difficult to survive if they lost a significant amount of their customers. both stars and ft will have their liabilities (loans etc.) set according to their expected turnover. If that turnover changes significantly they will not be able to meet their payments and then.............. BUSTO. it does not make a difference how big they are without the us players.

Another factor that will contribute to them going bust is everyone withdrawing their money. Even euro players are withdrawing their money and this will put huge pressure on both sites cash balance. No bank in the world will provide an overdraft facility for a company that has such serious legal and financial problems so........... BUSTO.

For people who think that ft and stars are 'too big to fail', I honestly dont see how. They cannot rely on govt support and I doubt if they can rely on financial support from banks so........... Busto.

Basically I see all roads leading to a bad day for poker and while I am sure there will be plenty of people to tell me im wrong there are many more who cant afford to take the chance.

Finally for the few who dont know, your money will be very far down the list of priorities if either site files for bankruptcy. Depending on how much the companies are leveraged, if they go bust you could be looking at cents on the dollar. it has nothing to do with the feds taking your money, its just a domino effect that leads to bankruptcy. I know this is more of a business angle on the situation however this is how it could affect the poker community.

Hopefully i have no idea about what i am talking about.

04-15-2011 , 07:16 PM
i just got a check today from ft. should i wait a couple weeks to see whats going down before i try to deposit?

i also withdrew my whole roll on ft and stars just before things started getting out of hand. got 'approved' emails from both ft/ps, but i dont think they mean anything now.

Greg are you in the PH. . did you withdraw?

The fact there is no "official statement" yet from any of the sites is ****ing worrying. I think **** has really hit the fan. No news is not good news, that is for sure.
04-15-2011 , 07:18 PM
Some random thoughts......

The sites (Stars and FT) will ultimately survive and return in some fashion, but t will be months at least.

As to depositis, I think that's sketchy. My guess is the government has the most ability to confiscate the $$$ at the 'payment processors' (Just to be clear I am NOT a lawyer) Your balance at the site is offshore, and probably ok for now. I dont think the government has grabbed assets yet, just the web domains. The sites will continue to operate world wide and their systems will keep churning. However, these payment processors who were handling US $$ for US ppl would be more exposed. Does that mean 'cashing out' right now might be a bad thing? I don't know for sure. I would def cash out immediately - it gives you a shot while the dust settles.

so the fact you guys talking about moving to asian countries means that the rest of the world outside of the u.s will more than likely be fine when this blows over??

im in jamaica & have been getting my $ through an american bank from stars.. i assume people from outside of the europe has been doing the same??... what happen to you south american/asian players now??...
04-15-2011 , 07:19 PM

Could you imagine the trial

Lol he puts his hand on the book and swears to 'nothing but the truth', rolls his eyes and stares up at the ceiling.
