I played with him countless times. Always fun to have at the table.

Thanks for the heads up... definitely one of those guys I'd heard about when I first started getting into poker. Best to his family.

Has he even played in recent years? Sad the guy wasn't even 70 years old.

From Todd Brunson.

So I was playing in a WPT at the Mirage. I was one of the chip leaders along with Eli Elezra. Jim was at the table doing his usual shstick, which I always enjoyed but apparently Eli didn't share in this opinion. A hand comes down where I raise Eli's blind and make a c bet. Eli check raises me on this dry board and I just move in. Eli goes in the tank (With Jim jabbering away the whole time), turns up his hand, which is a dry gut shot, and says "I can't take this freakin guy any more! I'm going home! Here Todd, take my chips", and calls. Turn blank. river BOOM!!! Eli nails his gutter and I'm out. I just stood there like: WTF just happened???? Eli took a huge chip lead and never looked back. He went on to win the tournament and over a million bucks. All thanks to James M Meehan. RIP buddy. I will truly miss playing poker with you and our long nights at various bars around Vegas and elsewhere.

He was playing 40/80 mix at Canterbury and Minnesota tournaments up until ~3 years ago. He was overall a good guy that had a drinking problem. He was a pretty damn solid O8 player imo.

A few I have:

Jim moving his chips from the must-move game to the main-game via dumping them in his cowboy hat.

The casino was running a "high hand bonus" for the smaller stakes games. The board announced "quad fours with a Jack kicker is the new high hand" and Jim goes on a funny mini-rant that went something like "Jack four? Who the hell plays jack four!?"

There was certainly some "politically incorrect" statements most of his sessions which made for great laughs (or offense to the weak).

He also enjoyed swapping 1% with a ~dozen people in tournaments.

The "Minnesota Poker Hall of Fame" was recently created with Jim being the first inductee.
