i knew paul well from the time he first came around to poker. he was his own kind of person and had a funny side to him all the time. he was a terrible poker player but did some things very well with his game and allowed him to break the bad players who couldnt get in with him fast enough.
after staying broke for a long time he changed as most would. he became more of a scuffler trying to get hold of any money he could.

over all he was a big plus to poker in general just because of his persona. nobody remembers a grinder when he is gone. and eskimo will be remembered for a long time to come and rightly so.

Tried to sell me his Razz bracelet (I think) at WPO in 2005. I offered him $300. He was beyond insulted. What a character. RIP

No matter what anybody says, you haven't walked in his shoes. RIP you lived your life by your terms and that should be good enough by anyone's standards...

Quote:
So supposedly, just a few days ago, Sam Grizzle and Eskimo Clark were in the indoor bathroom outside the Amazon Room taking a leak during a break. Eskimo apparently asked Sam how he was doing, and vice versa … both grunted.

Then Eskimo asked, “You wanna trade 10 percent in this event?” (I believe it was a $1,500 NL) and Sam apparently agreed, saying, “Sure, why not?”

Sam then washed his hands and left, at which point another player said to Eskimo, “Hey Paul, did you just swap with Sam on the $1,500? He just busted out 10 minutes ago!”

At which point Eskimo responded, “That’s OK. I never even registered.”
may not even be true, but def "old school" personified

RIP eskimo, true legend

Hellmuth and Tony G are trying to push Devilfish for the Poker Hall of Fame.

I think Eskimo Clark should get in first. He won more one-table satellites than anyone in history. He reached 1 million bankroll close to a dozen times in the 1990s when the opportunity to do so (small fields in tourneys, small limits in live games) was low.

Eskimo was an odd duck, pleasant enough much of the time, but I got really irritated with him one night when I was stuck next to him in a tourney at the old Legends of Poker: he hadn't taken a shower for a couple of days and smelled rank bad. This would have been a $300 or $500 buyin in '92 or '93. Smoking was still allowed, so, just as a method of tilt control, I went to the convenience shop at the Bike and bought a portable fan to shift Eskimo's BO away from me.

RIP, Eskimo.

Eskimo for Hall of Fame.

No one committed himself more to the game mind, body, and spirit like Eskimo. He never went commercial. He was pure old school in the same spirit as Stu and Puggy.

He was a back room brawler to the end. He lived by his wits. He never played up to the cameras like the others who are really showmen not poker players.

Eskimo was a poker player not a showman. The last of a dying breed.

One of the last of a breed of guys who had what is commonly referred to as "personality." Sometimes that's good; sometime's it's bad, but I prefer it to guys who seem like they've been scrubbed clean of any unique characteristics. Thank you for being a person and RIP Eskimo.

I am not trying to say anything bad about him just saying 3 times I encountered him.

2006- Saw him at Las Vegas Mcdonalds a couple miles from strip in front of me in line and ordering exclusively from the $1 menu. Not that there is anything wrong with that I have done it before but in recent years before that I had seen him take some decent scores on TV so it was pretty odd to me at the time.

2010- Saw him hanging around outside WSOP circuit event in West Palm Beach kennel club poker room trying to get a stake for a tournament.

2013- I was staying at Silver 7's or whatever it was called at the time near Hard Rock in Las Vegas and walking back to my room late night saw him grinding the $2/$4 Limit game with about $80 in front of him.

Some funny quotes from his twitter account:

i didn't know him but i remember hearing a funny story. something along the lines of eskimo was taking a pee at a urinal during the break of a tourney, another old school player comes to pee at said urinal.

they know each other and make some small talk then as the other guy is leaving he says to eskimo, "hey wanna swap 5% in this tourney?"
"sure thing, sounds good" says eskimo.

the guy leaves and someone comes out of one of the stalls and says to eskimo "it's none of my business but i feel i need to tell you that the guy you just swapped with busted that tourney on my table about 15 minutes before the break."
"that's okay," replied eskimo "i never entered it in the first place."

Still have it...lol. Another time in Reno...he.chopped a MTT I.put him for a.bunch...was a nice 6 figure score for me

How was the level of his integrity when it came to paying off debts and honoring percentage swaps?
