Barry has a good point that it isn't fair if all debts go to ROW players and US players are not made whole. Things might be different if the DOJ would step up and back the US player balances, but that hasn't happened yet.
so the solution is simple !
since the debt to players is about $150 +/- to US and $150 +/- to ROW what he should do is give $200 to GBT now and put $200G in an account and if it is needed to pay pack US in full it goes there if not it goes to the new owners GBT

Just a quick question, for all these players that were lent money, they would be losing players. If you play on credit you take back your winnings not the stake money, so the only way they would owe money is if they are losing players, right?

GBT bought FTP, including all its debts. You borrowed money from FTP, now you own it to GBT. How simple is that? Pay your f'king loans.

WTF seriously, I mean does anyone in this game ever play with there own fkn money anymore???

I can only imagine how many people got stacked off for everything vs these guys who were lol'n while they just reloaded their phantom moneis vs the "fish" ofc. You all make this beautiful game so much more disgraceful as every month goes on post black friday and more and more scandals break, with bigger and bigger names. Barry G, god bless but your just a degen gambler too. Makes me love the 2-5 to 5/10 local guys who genuinely love to play the game more and more.

OK, contributing this fast-growing thread with my $0.02. My thoughts are probably not unique, but oh well. here goes. Also, might be tl;dr.

I find it really surprising that Barry would loan $400k from FTP while being a PS pro, and not settling the loan after losing it (I'm assuming he lost it since he never paid it back). He must have known there is a record of it, and there is a good chance it comes out one day.

it also shows how PS pros play on other sites even though I dont think they are supposed to(or are they? not sure of this). The same thing was probably true with FTP pro's. there were strange names playing huge tournaments and cash games whenever they ran in PS a few years back. Probably durrrr, ivey, patrik etc. played there even though being sponsored by FTP. This only shows how they are not that loyal people with high morale. They play if it's in their best interest. Even though FTP paid them huge amounts in order to NOT help PS get good publicity. And lets face it, the huge games are the ones that are mostly being monitored by railbirds etc. The huge HUP tournaments and ring games are drawing the attention, and I wonder what FTP executives thought of their top professionals playing in their rivals games bringing them exposure.

I also wonder how the hell did barry get a loan from FTP being a PS pro? How did that all went down? Did he call Lederer and ask for the money? or did he go to Bitar? Or what the hell... I'm baffled by this. I would also have assumed that if one of the PS pros play in FTP, they would get a transfer instead of loaning money. And I understand if there were good games going on and he wanted the money immediatelly. So I can understand a loan for a few weeks or so, until he could get money transferred. But for 2 years??! What the hell is that all about.

And the thing that bothers me the most:
If Barry was in debt to casinos for $3 million, how is it responsible to get a loan for $400k if he KNOWS he cant pay it back any time soon? How is this responsible gambling? I'm a rather low stakes semi-professional grinder. But never ever have I even thought for a split second to loan money I know I cant pay back. How is it possible that a seasoned professional can be so stupid to do that? I'm really bothered by this.

But I still love Barry, seems like he is one of the most stand up guys in the poker world. He is going to pay it back I believe, but it doesnt mean it was irresponsible to loan money he cant pay back. But at least he shows some backbone to come clean with this, unlike others. Ivey is the boss, but it really sucks that the man almost all poker players adore and idolize is handling this whole issue so poorly. His reputations has been dented for sure. Not cool Philip, not cool. He disappears for 6 months or so, only to re-appear without ANY statement whatsoever.

Also, Lindgren owing $4 million? wow, how the hell is he ever going to pay that back? :s Where did this money go? did they lose it all?

Seriously, I don't get all the hate for Barry, at least he's making some kind of statement concerning his debts to FTP etc. It would help if other Pros would finally break the silence and give us some insight about what's really going on, preferrably the ones who actually caused this whole situation.

Becuase he's obv just another degen gambler, the likes of which I hope this game moves away from in the future if/when it's legal here in the U.S. Guy was given a golden ticket most of us will never know, and this just goes to show the true root of his character. Nice guy, but total degenerate gambler. Probably better off in some business somewhere, very far away from a poker table.

Hey I'm a good guy! why don't you lend me a million (no interest like barry's) and I will pay you back--Promise.
The fact barry has owed this money for YEARS and NEVER tried to pay it back and NEVER mentioned it until someone else mentioned it, leads me to believe that he did not have plans on paying it back.
Even now he says he "will" but not sure when or to who.
If he is really going to pay it back put it in escrow NOW and prove he is willing to pay it back.

P.S. Let me know when I can pick up that Million you are going to "lend" me for years with no interest etc.

Disagreeing with your Hero Worship = Hate?

There is no "insight" here...
Just a self-serving PR statement...
Put together by a VERY expensive lawyer.

BG Cliff Notes

(1) I took advantage of the FTP Slush Fund

(2) I did not pay back the money for many years

(3) "I always pay my debts"...
But I will not pay THIS debt "to protect US players"

Barry is a genius...
He makes off with $400,000 of Account Holder money...
Which is probably 5-10% of his Net Worth...
Probably ended up with BIG chunk of Ivey's $10M Heist...
We are talking millions here...
And is gonna be an NVG Hero with a Cherry-On-Top.

I don't suppose BG has answered this, but why didn't he pay back the money as soon as he signed with Stars and bigger games started running there. This was well before BF.

No, he said HE was still owed $150,000. Anything implied in that is on your behalf.

Untill I read his post I had nothing against him or any other pro.
But now he is trying to stall the process for his personal benefit, making the chance smaller we ever get our money back.
So he is trying to steal from us, just because he totally messed up (I assume he doesn't have the money, he was obviously filling holes with holes).
Instead he should take his responsibility especially if his words "moral obligation" are more than empty.
If there is no deal that won't benefit USA players either.

Yeah, math is stupid, 18.8M doesn't have any impact on a 80M (minus 40M frozen money) deal.

Anyone on here, with a half a brain, would float that 400K as long as possible with no pressure to repay it.(and no interest) So BF hits, thus the dilemma, he admits he owes the money and I'm certain he'll pay it. A lot of these immature and bitter responses are not surprising.

First of all you don't help the deal go through with your debt do you?

Also if all the "pros" that own fulltilt money would pay their debt (about 18million) would this have any(positive) impact to the deal Barry?

Anyone with half a brain would have paid the loan as soon as possible after BF - do you really think he could have hidden this loan after FT's Desaster?
