Oh yes, those were the good ol' days. What I wouldn't give to be able to do that now.

I remember when Waco Red pulled the barking iron on Pecos Blackie during that hand of 7-5 at Smokeys Place in Sweetwater back in '47 after 1 Finger Brazo switched the dice like he did for 30 years, and we respected him for that, ....wait this is for Johnny Hughes to finish.

I remember most of it. Most hated Russ's over-posting but you just needed to screen a little to find the gem's. Most said it was pitiful how he died, but hell he was a gambler, and gambled til his last days; I think that would be a happy thing for any true gambler. OK he was a cheater and a scammer too, goes with the territory. One of his last scams was free airplane tickets. He found a loophole where he could get air miles by taking out cash with his credit card, then he would just funnel the cash back with revolving accounts back into the bank. He only revealed it after they closed the loophole.

I remember when Razzo supposedly died, he took a lot of crap when he came back to life on RGP.

My poker education started off with two books, Gary Carson's and Lee Jones'. Thanks to RGP I was able to have one on one conversations with both, as well as enjoy the bipolar ups and downs of Gary's life. It was always a blast to see him on the penny stud hi/lo tables when I was trying to learn the game, he never responded to my chat though, and always left too early because by that time I had learned to be super aggressive at the tables and the games spun out of control quickly. Man I miss my Star's micro limit stud games.

Stars used to have RGP only, small buy in tournaments, and one day Lee Jones emailed me out of the blue after he saw I had entered, seeing I was from Arkansas, where his wife was from. I was literally star struck by our conversation, his book took so much of the mystery out of the game at that time for me. And he would usually drop by the tournament to say hi, now thats the way to run a poker room.

Its my opinion that if on-line poker is ever going to have a chance in America today, it will take a person like Lee Jones, with his reputation in the game, to be a key part in its regulation and success.

I remember playing Bagelman HU 8-16 Stud8 everday and then losing to thecount1729 and Edog at 20 40 on planet poker over and over. In a Sunday tourney worth 250k for first (the biggest ever at that time) I was six handed at my table with twelve left. Guy had raised 500x in a row. I get AK call off 1/3 my stack and fold the J84 flop. Got 12k for tenth place.

It was Slovenian, not Ukranian. The host of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" was involved, as were pictures of Miss Slovenia 1994.

Been posting a few hands in mid LHE and realize just how bad I am relative to the competition these days, and how easy it was to make money pre and immediately post boom.

The thought that i couldn't go into a cardroom with a few thousand in my pocket, rent a room nearby, and put together 20 to 40K in a couple of months seemed absurd back then. I really didn't understand why anyone couldn't learn to do it too... A job? Why? They used to say a big bet an hour was solid, but 30/60 and below, it was more like two or three back then.

Check raised on the turn? Lay down top pair against pretty much everyone. Flop a solid draw? Get as many bets in as possible on the flop, not for metagame, but because there were often so many hands active, that you were getting a huge overlay. Isolate an average player, get him to lay it down on the flop or maybe turn without at least top pair. Checked flop in a multiway pot? Bet from the one hole when the board paired low, and watch em auto fold in turn.

Now you fire the turn with unpaired AK, get check raised, and have to consider history and board texture, a three bet may be in order for 100 good reasons. Wow, times change.
