*turning $50 into $5k 2 tabling small stakes limit holdem at partypoker (absolutely insane winrates back then)
*cardrunners with green plastic, wiggins and stinger the only ones making videos
*paying $900 for a 1600x1200 monitor
*railing cts playing 3/6 as muckemsayuhhh
*railing PA playing 500 1k limit vs DN on his site (first contact poker orsmt?) when he was a total unknown

[QUOTE=pizdec;28742835]Trolling Annie Puke on rgp during that debacle.

Getting the cheating tapes and the recant of the cheating tapes in the mail on vhs.

What is funny is that at times russ seemed ready for the psych ward, but there was always the feeling that there was an underlying aura of convoluted truth in his claims.

Each pasing year brings more evidence that he was pretty much right, as more and more poker "heros" become ethically compromised.

He was calling Russ Hamilton a cheat and scumbag before 95% of the people on this board had even heard of him.

Calling out Howard about playing 3 against 1 at the Mirage with his partner David Grey and his sister. Seemed crazy then, but in light of what he has done with even bigger money now, is there any doubt he would scam a 300/600 game when he was a lot poorer?

Accusing Chip and Doyle and Billy Baxter et cetera of playing a common bankroll, staying out of each other's way, and setting up live ones for the slaughter. Oh and playing paper against everyone from Mike M., Sammy, Phil H. and 100's of assorted fish. I think we can conclude now that these guys were and are capable of it.

Playing on Planet Poker.

In 1998?

The only game was 3-6 limit. Everyone was on dial up and damn near every hand someone was disconnected.

Good Times!

DN used to have a pokersite called poker mountain or something right? I remember reading he was playing "huge" HU games against someone called dream something or other. What were the stakes? Is the person he played still around?

Sgt Rock's RGP trip reports.
Those rocked so hard. I have Googled them and can't find them.

The even better trip reports were from a guy named Mark Stantz. He had one trip report that opens with him sitting at a bar at the Mirage, talking to a hooker, and asking himself "How did I get here?" And then the trip report basically leads up to that moment. It involves playing in a tournament at the Gold Coast and a $50-$100 LHE session in which Jennifer Harman figures.

It was inspired, Hunter Thompson-esque writing and blew the socks off anything else that had been written up until then. In fact, I just found one of his reports online and have posted it in a separate thread (which it deserves).

Regards, Lee

I remember watching YouTube videos about some guy called (I think) Beetlejuice or something similar....

Some fat Jeremy Frickie-like guy who talked about how super easy online poker was, claimed to have won the Sunday million 2-3 times and said he grinded $5k HUSNG all day. Had vids showing him scooping, but if you looked closely it was play monies.

I remember playing black jack next to Doyle Brunson, during the world series. He was in the main event, and I was blowing my roll at $25 a bet.

They used to have the tournament tables all over the casino floor. It would be common to walk out of the bathroom, and have to side step around a tournament table. Also you could smoke while gambling, but you couldn't while playing a tournament. Even if the two chairs were brushing up against eachother.

Got an RGC cheating VHS videotape by mail in 2001. It was terrible.

Played my first poker game for money at Caesar's palace Tahoe at 14 years old, won something like $100 in 1985 I think. Drank a few Becks dark beers at the table and felt like a boss. Used a terrible fake ID but clearly no one cared back then.

Went to a Madonna concert with a girl and opening act was the Beastie Boys, no one had heard of them, Madonna introduced them as kids from Brooklyn.

Talked my father out of getting a cassette player in his new car and he got the much safer play "8-track stereo tape deck" instead. It was a Porsche 914, total POS.

I played in the pokerpages freerolls and in fact won one of them. A few weeks later I got a letter in the mail inviting me to play in the TOC as a "major tournament winner".

The first time Paradise ever offered clothes - you just got a popup saying "want a shirt and hat? email and ask". I did and I still have that shirt, super comfortable.

Paradise use to charge you the processing fee on your deposit, so if you (for example) deposited $100 with your credit card, you'd receive $95, and there'd be a $5 pending bonus you would have to playthrough to get.

A sweet memory for old school 2p2ers: In 2006, Mansion offered an $1100 free bet on the opening game of an NFL season. You had to bet the Steelers to win the game, and you had to bet $1100 (to win $1000; if the steelers lost, you'd just get your $1100 back). 2p2 was all over it and the line was like 8 points or something. Then Roethlisberger had some last second injury and the line dropped to like 3 points as Charlie Batch was going to play. So the game is underway, and the Steelers are leading by 4 with just a few minutes left, and the Dolphins have the ball. Early adopters are crying as it seemed they had no chance - either Miami would score and win, or they would not score and Steelers would kneel it out. However, instead, Joey Porter scored on a pick-6 with 2 mins left and covered for like half of 2p2. The sweat thread on it was incredible.

I remember when Pokerroom.com was play money only. I remember when the big game was 20-40 limit hold 'em on Paradise. I remember playing on the original Poker.com before it got hijacked in 2002. My screen name there was Elvis, not Elvis12345, just Elvis lol. I started playing online poker around October 1998, shortly after Rounders came out. The first time I ever placed a bet online was September 1996 at Intercasino. I remember playing on TruePoker when the rep came on and said, we have just set an all time record with 300 players on at one time. I remember when UltimateBet had Pineapple. Does anyone remember that website that guy created saying Paradise Poker was a scam? Could someone please find the old archived website and post a link? He actually made it look like Paradise' site and everything. I love threads like these reminiscing about the good old days of poker, especially online poker.

I remember playing on UB the night the first WPT Aruba tournament was televised with the UB logo on the felt and all that. The new traffic overwhelmed the servers and by the next day they went from maybe having two .50/1.00 games to ten.

The beginning of the internet boom. From there we have Party flooding the airwaves with commercials and they go from obscure also-ran to industry leader...
