The old school poker boom for me was dominating tournaments on the old Royal Vegas Poker (Prima network) - they had the best freezeout tournaments with buying from 11-100 dollars and everything in between with MANAGEABLE size fields of 70-250 players. It was so sweet how you could buy into a 35+ 3 MTT freeze out with 200 players, and you could end up with a couple grand after playing for 6-7 hours ....their “big Sunday tournament was 50 dollar rebuy and drew 800 players paying like 25k for first - final table’d it several times.....and the competition was ridiculously soft - very euro heavy site with tons of clueless players - the cash games were also amazing - I never really enjoyed the big sites like FTP and PS. I’d play the 11 dollar rebuys with thousands of players and play for 10-12 hours to get close to the final table. Also always found the players to be much better on those sites

Two equal sized blinds, one of which was on the button and the other what we'd now call the small blind

Playing on Planet Poker. They had the Mad Genius, Mike Caro. The game had buttons you could use to Laugh, Scream, etc. after a hand. It was a Hoot.

The smoking at tables was brutal. The stench in your clothes was bad - even after washing. Folks brought little fans to help.

I had a Paradise Poker tee shirt that I "won" there. It's probably in a Box in the storeroom.

Playing on Party Poker in the big 3/6 Limit game....

Going to the Grand in Biloxi, MS playing 1-4-8-8 Limit in the latter 90's.

Coushatta and Lake Charles had a 1-4-8-12 Limit game and betting a "Dozen Cousin" on the River... ha !

At the Grand and Lake Charles, the normal seating was 10 handed. But they would regularly cram in a 11th seat as it was so busy... ha ! Talk about Hogs at the Trough !

Using the Clear Plastic Box to play "over" a player who was absent / went to eat.

Playing the "Overs" button - in Limit games so if/when it was only Players who had elected to play the "Overs" game were left in a hand the game would go to a larger betting structure.... ha !

watched the first televised WSOP back in 1973 with my Dad. During the final hand I remember the guy ordered a hamburger from the lunch counter at Binion's and started eating it. Wound up going there in the 1980's and eating at the same counter, they had good hamburgers and some of Benny's guns were on display on the casino floor.

Learned to tip the old cocktail waitress a redbird on the first drink, she came back every five minutes! Whatever I won at poker I donked off with TJ Cloutier at the craps table.

I remember discovering 2+2 books at B&N and immediately knowing these are guys that actually know what they're talking about.

Remember the early days of the forum....Dynasty and ClarkMeister were must reads and then a little later, bicyclekick and Schneids.

True Poker with the robot...re-raze.

Unbelievably bad players on Inter and Pacific.

Never getting one value bet on the river called in a couple of hours of heads up play against a tough opponent on Absolute. Potripper thread on 2p2 wasn't long after.

Pattern Matching thread.

Time to get a little delicate.

My local room had the “over” buttons also, but what was even more fun was it had “no limit” buttons so the game switched to no limit once they were the only players left in the hand.

You're bringing back a lot of memories for me. I played seven card stud on Planet back in 1998, as I had not learned how to play hold 'em yet. I remember the Homer Simpson "Duh" sound effect you are referring to. I remember playing on the original Pokerroom.com, when it was play money only.

Grand Casino Tunica upstairs poker room had a 2-5-10-10 limit hold 'em game that was a lot of fun. I used to love eating those free hot dogs, and cold beverages every time I played a session. The 20-40 at the Horseshoe would always play with a rock.

Players in seats 1 and 9 would always use the seat change button and I would join the game next to the dealer at Greektown casino in Detroit. Reason; no smoking allowed next to the dealer.

Been around 20+ years mostly Pokerstars player. Been winning player since day 1 still am at micro/low stakes.

I'm so old school I haven't studied hardly a dam thing new(that I fully finished) in 15+ years when it comes to poker books or courses. And I've only brough a couple cheap RIO FTGU courses. I'm old enough to remember when it was easy and there were seemingly endless amounts of fish. Now days the only difference at micro/low stakes is there is near the same amount of fish. The fish there are still suck just as much though.

^Not a brag. At best I'm a meh-okish hobby poker player. This simply shows how bad the fish still are when my 15 year game+experience can still win.

Cheers!!!

For a while, that was the case with my first reading of 2p2 books.

When Small Stakes Hold'em came out, I was tickled pink by the number of times I read the phrase "As explained in Gary Carson's book Hold 'Em Poker . . ."

I founded and was CEO of an online poker network in Spring 2001. I transferred it many years ago.

(I also bought the DoylesRoom domain from the DOJ following its seizure, because I wanted to buy back a different domain I had owned and they insisted on an all-or-nothing deal.)

doylesroom.com and .net are both parked at different places I see. The .net has a listing price of $10k. Do you own both? I'd reach out to Brian Ballsbaugh. Maybe he can make something happen with them. I also feel like ~now is the optimal selling point because while Doyle will always be a historical character in gambling, his relevancy wanes with time and the coming of age of a new generation of poker players who aren't even old enough to remember pre-UIGEA.
