rebuy tournaments can be whack, and awesome just like many things. sites/casinos should just host BOTH. thats the answer IMO.

Part of what is frustrating about them is that if you are trying to play conservatively and make bullets count sometimes you become a victim to all the high variance plays early on. additionally, the victors of this early frenzy often emerge with insane chip-leads, which did not necessarily come from skill, and their advantage carries them deep

rebuys have a great synergy with omaha and the variance involved.

the real scourge of the MTT world is: ADD ONS 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

rebuys, re-entries should be gone and there needs to be a limit on late registration also - should be some slack around that to accommodate long lines, crowds and administration but not so that people can intentionally late reg to "spin it up" and for "ICM Considerations" - as a rec/reg would like to see all of this disappear. Miss the days of all freezeouts.

People travel in to play most tournaments. A lot of players are not going to drive several hours to play a freezeout. As for online, a mixture of all formats seems just fine.

Like I said in my earlier post, tight is usually right in the early stages of a re-buy tourney, and actually in most any tourney except turbos. When a large part of the field is super aggro, tighten your game up even more. Let them battle each other, while you stay out of the fray and protect your stack. When you get dealt a really good hand, play cautiously, and try to avoid putting yourself in high variance situations with multiple opponents. Use your opponents' aggression against them. And if in spite of everything you end up busting out, at least you know you can re-enter.

Like you said, re-buy tournaments can be whack, but tournaments in general are whack and high variance. Even top pros lose when some mediocre player just happens to be having a lucky run. High variance hands involving super aggro players aren't just limited to re-entry tournaments either, but also in freerolls, almost any type of tourney with a low buy-in, and certainly in low stakes cash games.

True, but often these people are bad, fishy players who just continue playing in the same way for the entire tournament. I recently played in a re-entry tournament where after re-entries were closed, a super aggro player in the Top 5 (I was 43rd at the time), ended up losing all of his chips to me in just two hands, which moved me in 2nd place.

In the first hand particularly, it seemed pretty evident to me that he should have known he was beat, but I guess he either thought I was bluffing, or thought he could scare me out by going AI on the turn. Probably though I would be easy to push out because I'd been playing tight. He didn't even have or make a pair, just K,10o. I'd give you more details, but can't remember exactly, and can't get into BetOnline right now to look at my hand history.
