Josh Arieh made the Arieh casino, they run a lot of HR tourneys and have helped grow poker. He also plays tournaments.
Phil Hellmuth sometimes wears the Arieh hat.

That's all good, and Arieh certainly has the bona fides to be in the HOF someday. But the laugh was over the notion that Arieh is more deserving than Rast. As Scotch says above, Rast has Arieh beat on pretty much every measure.

I guess Arieh plays underground games in Georgia. Rast beats the games in Bobby's Room. Arieh belongs in, but Rast is a top player comparable to Ivey.

His deep run in the main when Raymer won was an iconic moment during the early years of the poker boom.

He has a WSOP player of the year and very well may get his second POY this year, while rast has none.

Arieh has also been playing longer than rast . Both have 6 bracelets. Its close .... and its definitely not unreasonable to think rast deserves to get in before arieh, but to laugh at the notion that arieh deserves to get in before rast is kind of silly. Like I said it's super close.

With three PPC titles, 6 bracelets in all, and high stakes cash game success, Rast is a great selection.

I checked out the list of multi-bracelet winners to see how it compared with the HOF. Men the Master is the only player with more than 6 bracelets to not make it into the Hall, while it's a mixed bag among those with fewer World Series titles. The names in yellow are members of the HOF.
Ted Forrest is an interesting case: 6 bracelets, but none in marquee events, plus a win in the National Heads Up championship in 2006, a WPT title at Bay 101, along with legendary history in the biggest cash games of his day, including the biggest of all against Andy Beal. A strong case can be made for his HOF credentials.

I guess I didn't realize how much of a crusher rast is in cash games. Definitely a worthy selection, congrats sir.

Why not just acknowledge that these are different arenas, let the Poker HOF keep voting in the greatest live players, and create a separate institution for great online players (or online founders like Scheinberg)?
