Jamie Gold deserves credit for being able to talk his opponents into doing exactly what he wanted them to do almost the entire tournament. Gotta give the guy props for being able to do what he did beyond cards and traditional play. He seemed to have a weird sixth sense of understanding psychology and knowing exactly what a particular opponent needed to hear at any given time to influence particular outcome..

(I know this about what they've done since but Gold still deserves to be at the top among the guys that haven't done much bc of how he won)

maybe some people forgot how deep raymer ran in the 2005 event...he was sent home the 25th with a bad beat. that was ****ing impressive.

ps the hand was: blinds 20/40K raymer who was easily over the average in chips, raises with KK to 100K, another guy calls with QJ. flop 635 and raymer bets 150K. the other guy calls. turn the 7 and raymer bets about 300K. the random guy raised to 900K. raymer reraised all in, with an instacall as was pot comited. river was 2 and left raymer with less than 10BB.

If it's true that Eastgate beat 25/50 online then I think you have to put him first by default imo.

I can't see Hachem/Raymer or any of the others doing that. On second thought Raymer could probably eat 25/50 online though.

Im surprised at all the Moneymaker hate itt. Hes no Ivey by any means, but hes far from horrible.

http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=18826

2004:WPT Event 2nd, WPT Event 18th, WSOP Event 10th
2006: WSOP Event 28th
2007: WSOP Event 233rd, EPT Event 17th
2009: WSOP Circuit Event 2nd, 3 WPO Events (1st, 1st, 3rd)
2010: NBC Heads Up Championship 9th, EPT Event 69th
2011: EPT Event 11th, NBC Heads Up Championship 2nd

i mean again, its not the WSOP/E big time events...but hes not as horrible as you want to believe he is.

Also..nobody else has done anything? Isthat basedoff just what you seeon TV or something?

Cada-17th and 64th in 2 other WSOP events the year he won; 11th in NAPT Event last year; 13th and 3rd in 2 different EPT Events this year...

Duhamel- 50th and 15thin 2 other WSOP events last year before winning ME; EPT 1st and WSOP 54th and 15th this year...

now Jerry Yang/Jamie Gold is completely different story....Yang disappeared after winning before cashing in 3 WSOP Events last year (195th, 96th, 57th)

Gold? bout the same as Yang...2 cashes in WSOP 2008 (44th, 84th), WSOPE cash in 2008 (35th), WSOP cash this year (135th)...not much.

1) Greg Raymer (He hasn't had too much success recently, but he did have an epic run in the ME the year after he won and has a had a few final tables. Unlike most of the rest of this list, he can play all of the games and play them well. He also seems like a helluva nice guy).

2) Jonathan Duhamel (I know it's only been a year, but I was very impressed with his final table play in the ME and he has made a few cashes this year already and has played all of the games, not just NLHE, which I think adds to his overall ability as a player, I'd love to see him take down another bracelet).

3) Joe Hachem (I know the guy is an *******. I know he tilts hardcore for someone who has been lucky enough to win the main event, but he is a good player. His career certainly has been better than the rest of the guys on this list though, including a WPT win).

4) Peter Eastgate (His semi-retirement aside, Peter is a great NLHE player who showed that he wasn't a one-hit wonder with some follow-up results including a PCA win for $343k in 2009 and a 2nd at the EPT London good for $843k).

5) Chris Moneymaker (The man started it all and has some decent online success, but he has never really followed up with any real success out on the tour and has been saddled with some terrible televised beats).

6) Joe Cada (I know others think he is better than he is, but I don't see it. I thought he played as bad as a human can play given the circumstances heads up against Darvin Moon and almost gave him the victory (especially for a self-proclaimed 'heads up specialist'. You also rarely see him in anything other than NLHE tournaments that he has had little success in since his big win).

7) Jamie Gold (Not much to say that hasn't already been said. I guess he is better than Jerry Yang).

8) Jerry Yang (probably the nicest main event winner there ever was, so that's something).

In before:

[ ] yada yada yada
[x] something witty

Flame on.
Havent you ever seen rounders "the nicer the poker player... the poorer the player" up jamie and hachem

I don't know anything about Duhamel's non-NL game, so I'd say Raymer is #1 all around.

Regarding only NL
1. Duhamel
and then the rest of 'em

Yang everybodys last place pick had the most effective strategy for his skill level of any of them. Could have been by accident but swinging for the fences was his only chance

Lol just watch pokerstars big game when cada played. He eventually had to quit because he was so overmatched. He was o cashes for over 50 events after his main event win.

I'm pretty sure the last time this thread happened most, if not all, of the actual high stake players who posted in it said that Eastgate was very possibly the best No Limit Holdem player to ever win the WSOP Main Event.
