I read this today and thought some of you might find it interesting:

https://www.vulture.com/article/rand...tt-movies.html

Doesn't mention anything about his poker exploits, but helps shed a little more light on his finances and character. I'm almost tempted to believe he paid them to run this story, since he seems like a guy desperate to become a name.

Wow, that was quite the educational article - I had no idea there was so much money in making crap like that. I figured someone would be able to make a half dozen really shitty movies for millions or tens of millions before being relegated to the truly bottom of the barrel ****.

Also, it reminds me again how many people there are for whom nothing is ever enough, I assume because they just keep finding new ways to blow through shittons of money.

A lot of movies are financed by dirty money as well. Good way to launder money. Even the Wolf of Wall Street was partly funded by 1MDB dirty money.

LOL the guy is brilliant. Get a past-his-prime action star to show up for a day or two of shooting, presell the movie to foreign audiences for big bucks, skimp on everything else and make a huge profit.

Reading about this reminds me of the only movie I have ever went to see in which I felt ripped off.... The 1996 movie Executive Decision in which Steven Seagal gets killed off early in the 2 hrs+ minutes movie. I kept waiting for him to come back. The movie poster publicized this movie as Seagal as the main character and Kurt Russell's name was in smaller print.

Sounds like a win to me! I haven't seen too many Seagal movies, but I don't remember any that wouldn't have been improved by him being killed off early.

Would totally seem like a paid article if the title read "Here's 5 reasons why Randall Emmett is not a toolbox".

Ha, I felt the same way, and rant about it whenever I get the chance.

Regarding Seagal: no one watches Steven Seagal movies because he's a fantastic actor. We watch because they are completely, 100% ridiculous and as such, highly entertaining. Seagal killing William Forsythe by sticking a corkscrew in his head is the best.

I guess some of these actors just like to work. Some of them need the money. You have to wonder why many of them who don't need the money want to tarnish their careers by appearing in Direct to DVD crap. They can always go overseas like the character Bill Murray played in Lost In Translation and do commercial for big money.

Executive Decision is one of my favorite movies. I will watch it whenever it comes on.

Great article, I didn't think I could have a lower opinion of him that I already did. Lowered my opinion too of all the supposed Hollywood A-listers that continue to pollute the industry with so many terrible action films.

If anyone wants to listen to the podcast episodes mentioned:

No wonder some of these actors need to pump out so many crap movies.

His directorial debut is slated to open July 23. The trailer looks pretty good, though his track record makes me skeptical. And Bruce Willis seems to be playing his usual part in an Emmett-produced mediocrity:

That film is memorable to me for that very reason; it portrays Seagal receiving an honorable death, & immediately immerses the viewer into watching a suspenseful film where *anything can happen". So, it was a great action flick

A lot of posters in this thread are embarrassing themselves, exposing their lack of knowledge on how things work

If somebody in this sphere wants some kick-ass PR, then ok. They'll know the best way to get that done pretty soon. The bar in entertainment is low. & ppl wanna see something fresh. Alright. If you don't understand this post, move on. Cheers 🎩

I don’t think he welched. I saw a video of him handing out ice cream to whoever wanted it. Could have just been a few tables, though.

Can confirm that my table did not receive any of the promised ice cream.

I played with him like 6 years ago when he was in town for production on some movie.

He was playing 1/2 NL while waiting for a PLO seat and was raising to absurd amounts blind and calling it off so I moved to his right, limp-jammed AQ and lost to 64o or something dumb.

And that's how I helped finance a Hollywood film!
