I think this would be a natural assumption if Persson and Nik Airball were actual pros. The fact that they seem to be pretty terrible at poker makes it hard for me to believe they're playing characters as part of a calculated plan. If they were actually prioritizing their EV they wouldn't be playing poker IMO.
I'm not completely closed to the idea that one or both of them are actually next-level brain geniouses who intentionally play badly in every context other than private games at much higher stakes, but that seems extremely unlikely.
