I am currently a student at West Virginia University taking classes in Forensic Accounting and Fraud Investigation. My research paper is on scams and illegal activities on online poker sites as well as the legality behind online poker. I am wondering if anyone has any insight about Full Tilts/Poker Stars or any other sites controls to stop these activities and past problems they have incurred such as players dumping, multi-accounting, Multi-players sitting at the same table and exchanging hands/ other information, players who back other players in tournaments and then if those players make it deep into the tournament take over (the imper1um case).

It would be greatly appreciated if I could get some insight According to my professor all of these papers will get published and could bring some good attention to the poker sites ability to stop these actives and help the online poker community.

Also I have already set up an Online Interview with the Poker Players Alliance and If Taylor or any other player that has connections with Full Tilt or poker stars could help me set up an interview with them I would greatly appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Josh Swain Aka Auntruth53

WHY not do one on UB and Absolute .... It is a forensic accounting gold mine. Look at the UB thread in this forum for example.

You have a ready made research topic staring you in the face, along with references to all the investigators.

Have you tried e-mailing pokerstars support? They seem helpful enough that they could be of use to you

I have emailed full tilts support still waiting on a response. I actually dont have a poker stars account. Is their support email Support@pokerstars.com?

Thanks for the UB reference I will def look into it. Though it will only be a portion of my paper so more insight is needed.

Thanks

Hi Josh,
I'd suggest using this thread as your starting point. As MiltonF said, your paper has already started writing itself.

I am currently a student at West Virginia University taking classes in Forensic Accounting and Fraud Investigation. My research paper is on scams and illegal activities on online poker sites as well as the legality behind online poker.

One of the topics i will be discussing is poker bots. Can anyone tell me some info on them. What do sites such as Full Tilt and PokerStars do to stop them. Whats the legality issues? If a players is caught using them can they face punishment? Can a player that has been cheated recover loses?

Anything else that will help me will be appreciated

Thanks

Full Tilt and Poker Stars have both caught Bots. When they start an investigation they freeze the account and if they have sufficient proof they will close the account and confiscate the money to be split up between the players who lost to the bot.

You might also want to research how ex- Senator Bill Frist put the UGEIA bill that prohibits U.S. financial institutions from depositing on to poker sites into a MUST PASS Homeland Security Port Bill at the last minute. Because we all know how playing online poker could cause security problems at our ports.

I'm all for any bad publicity for Absolute or Ultamate Bet but it is also important to make it clear that there are other sites that try to keep the games legit.
