Know someone who had money stolen out of their safe in rio hotel room a few years ago. Really surprised the players haven’t pushed for a better venue although the convention area is nice rest of the place is not safe/well maintained/managed. Safety deposit boxes (they always run out) and more security is really necessary just hasn’t been a big enough lawsuit to force them to spend the extra money yet I guess.

Honestly, thieves are not close to biggest risk of staying at of Riio.

Its the petri dish of bacteria and viruses in the rooms, HVAC, hallways, just above everywhere.

A thief you can see and attack.

Good lock stopping this (virus that causes legionnaires disease)

And let's not forget the real danger at the Rio. Cosmic space zombie vampire versions of old TV movie cowboys. What are you gonna do when Wayne Newton comes at you with a six shooter full of space dust, or when Bing Crosby bites your arm and removes your sweet juices?

Ya a couple of years ago they had that issue, I got the last room they had when I checked in cause they had to close one of the towers... They shipped everyone to a different property. The next couple of days I had to move to a different room a couple of times while they did the purge/clean the water supply. As bad as it is I still like to stay on property while I'm playing just for convenience sake. I did stay at a Super Eight once (never again) that made the Rio look like the Ritz Carlton.

Another year I got to my room and the safe was locked, maintenance came and unlocked it (surprisingly easy) and previous occupant left an egg salad sandwich in it.

Another year after a late night cash game session I was a little rushed the next day and left the room and left the safe open.... had around $10K cash and probably $3K in chips in it, came back to the room during dinner break, safe open but everything in place and undisturbed. I always tip housekeeping and am very friendly to them, thank god I had an honest one.

Why would anyone murder you for putting a chair in front of the hotel door ?

If I tripped over a chair somebody put in front of a hotel door, and it caused me to break my leg or suffer serious injury, I might consider murdering that person. Maybe that explains it.

You might have a hard time of murdering someone if your victim is awake, especially if they're armed.

"My room at the RIO was broken-in to during the 2015 World Series of Poker; whoever got in was able to do so due to a faulty latch on the door. A policeman came and had a look, but the RIO security guy, who left with him, was downplaying that there was any problem. But they had to notice the ease of entry, because even the cop couldn’t close the damn door all the way; nevertheless, the cop proceeded to lie in the police report, which essentially screwed me out of an ~35k insurance claim. Every time I hear of people actually choosing to stay at the Rio, I’m reminded of Doug Stanhope’s review of the hotel. If you want a laugh, check it out here in his tweet announcing he’s been banned from all Caesar’s properties 😂😂😂

A method of storing value such that you can only be hacked, not robbed.

Yeah there are travel door locks too like Addalock and Angel lock that prevent the deadbolt from turning.

These guys could have been murdered for the cash in their room. Does Rio have a system where you can deposit cash at the cage and get it out later? I know some casinos do that. Not a safe deposit box but like depositing money in your casino account and you don't need a marker to get it out, you just show your players card and ID (just like a bank account).

If you put a comma after "latch" then it becomes pretty obvious what he meant. He's complaining about his interaction with the security guard.

I'd like my $2 donated to the first person with the "Let's go Brandon!" sign that you meet.

It probably looks like 90% of private and club games, which are all almost unbeatable due to the rake. The worse news is that most players are incapable of realizing this. The winners are happy to have won, and the losers are not worried about how much they're being raked. It's only the longterm winners that actually start to realize how much they're being gouged.

I read about a home game run one holiday weekend. One table and they raked $1 per hand for drinks and food. Made $2700 for the weekend which seems like a lot. $6/8/10 and more a hand I agree is just gouging the customers.

One time while staying in Vegas homeless looking fellow convinced a housekeeping lady to let him in my room. I was actually smoking pot at the time so I kind of figured the guy smelled it and that was what he wanted. He tried to say that he must be in the wrong tower and just bounced. I called the front desk but not sure if they did anything.

Always thought that was a particularly odd occurrence.

$10 would be cheap. I don’t think you ever played in private games. Raking 20-30k in a weekend and the house still loses.

+1. As a losing player I’ll happily pay more rake so those nit pros get a smaller cut. I don’t care, I lose 90% of the time I go to the casino anyways i rather the casino make more profit so those nit pros go away
