From today's Las Vegas Review Journal:

Police respond to a man pointing a gun in front of a Las Vegas casino

A man pointing a gun at another man in front of the Rio prompted a police response to the resort early Monday, police said.

Las Vegas police Lt. David Gordon said at 4:05 a.m. police were called to the resort at 3700 W. Flamingo Road for “a male suspect who reportedly pointed a handgun at a male victim outside the Rio.”

Officers responded and conducted an extensive search for the individual outside the property.

“Patrol officers spotted the suspect hiding under a car in the parking lot,” Gordon said.

A K9 police dog helped apprehend the man.

There is always criminals converging to Rio and parking lot when WSOP is going. They know there are 1000's of people walking around with large amounts of cash in the parking lot. A much higher concentration and $ figure than in a regular casino parking lot and that lot is huge, harder for security to cover.

I’m wondering if it was a robbery and they purposely did not say robbery. Maybe it was two poker players arguing, who knows?

This should never happen and I am glad no one was hurt, but I can not fathom going to sleep with the door unlocked.

It’s obviously an inside job, they had to use a key card to get in. And by the way, if it’s an inside job, they also have a special tool to unlock the latch if it’s locked.

Yes, that’s what’s being referred to as the “latch”.

A doorstop with an alarm costs about $15 - a worthy investment.

Someone at my 2/5 game said their rio room was ransacked last week. Crazy epidemic. They need to beef up security.

Sounds like a field day for thieves over there now. Class action incoming.

I guess I'm overly concerned with being murdered in my sleep because I always put a chair in front of the hotel door then balance a trash can or luggage on it to alert me if someone is coming in.

If you are part of the group, you can be lead plaintiff at...

Looks like Larry Parker has handled previous class action suits at Rio!

Place is a dump, but we'll all probably miss it if/when the WSOP moves.

We might miss the convention center where the WSOP is actually played, as I think its actually a pretty good facility and good layout. But yea no one is missing the actual hotel rooms and casino of the Rio, it's a long-neglected dump at this point.

Ha that is exactly what I did several years ago after somebody came into my room at Imperial Palace. The doors there didn’t close automatically like most hotels and I came in late after drinking and didn’t pay attention. Every day after that I put my wallet and cash under my pillow as I slept and put all kinds of **** in front of the door.

Why are we still gambling with cash at the premier event of the year? They should set up an exchange so ppl can move funds from different sites and keep it all electronically. This is like having American Idol and making all the contests enter using gold as their entry fee. I get the appeal of moving money without paying fees and taxes but this is always gonna happen as long as broke ppl are being advertised a place with rich ppl. Vegas and AC have always been sketchy if you walk less than a single block in any of the wrong directions and the parking lots are as well. They're tourist traps for people partying but for gamblers it's an inefficient mess and has been for a long time.

Making money easy and convenient to move is what the govt DOESN'T want.

Yeah, they should have ATM style machines in the hallway where you can pick up your entry tickets after registering online.
Oh wait…

The govt doesn’t give a **** how easy or convenient it is, so long as there’s a paper trail and the IRS still gets paid.

I haven't seen any toughs. Walked over to Wynn in daylight it was quiet. The long distances and empty streets are a little concerning if you don't know the area probably best to take a taxi door to door.

Even on the strip, there are homeless people sleeping on the sidewalk grates for warm air. And in bus shelters all over.

Welcome to the richest country in the world.

I also usually have on the nightstand next to me a bottle of water, TV remote, flashlight (was in a motel room once during a power outage, freaked me out) and a knife.
