That's pretty common in small clubs in Slovakia (e.g. Golden Vegas has half price on Friday and Saturday nights for women), it doesn't really have a major effect on participation but its a different culture.

It's more baffling that there are women's events when they want equality. Where are the ****in mens tournaments?

Not wanting to be the victim of prejudice isn't in conflict with the wish to occasionally choose who one wants to associate with.

You think women are entering the Ladies Event thinking about ROI, egde, etc? They are entering to have a fun, social time playing poker with other women, period. They are entering so they don't have to sit next to a 300+ pound, foul-mouthed, unshaven, smelly, not showered in two days, type of player, they have the entire rest of the schedule to deal with that LOL .

Sure there are killers like Selbst who could care less about social time with other women, but players like Selbst usually don't even enter Ladies events.

Are you really this ****ing ******ed or are you being intentionally obtuse? Do you also complain about ladies nights at bars and clubs and whine that there should be men's nights as well?

Let's be serious what everyone really wants is a surcharge for people under ~30.

The bottom line is that I am trying to see more news stories about poker. After reading replies here I think 3X is the sweet spot. Almost all woman players at bigger buy in ladies tournaments would say "bring em on" at that ratio, but some men would in fact still enter (as long as it was made clear that they were now welcome). There would be controversy and news stories over their claim that they still have the best of it at that price (but of course we all know that the their real reason usually would be that this is one of their few chances to talk to girls.)

If you're looking for negative publicity that presents poker in a classically sexist light I guess it's a good idea. There are plenty of easier ways to get negative publicity for poker, but this would be one possibility.

Otherwise, this isn't 1973 where Wild World of Sports goes crazy over the King/Riggs Battle of the Sexes and it makes the cover of Look.

The problem with women's events is the questions about gender politics they raise.

I suggest making it 50x for the men, so idiots such as SFD don't ever get the idea of playing women's events ...

I only read this hoping description of OPs brilliant idea contained the word "topless". I am very disappointed.

So after Mason M. did his best to make himself look like an obsolete come down poker relict in this poker psychology saga, David S. has decided to have a go as well?

If you want a news story, you could always just challenge the legality of the current rules. Iirc, excluding people from playing in a tournament based on gender isn't legal there, but some law allowing promotional discounts based on gender was used as a supposed loophole to keep the crashers out.

This isn't really a discount though since the house isn't adding the discounted amount to the prize pool, and the intent is clearly to prevent men from playing, which isn't legal.

To those that asked, seniors are a protected class. Sex is not. This is how you can run a 50+ event and deny anyone under 50, however anyone can enter a "male only" tournament
