Wondering how they are delivering the food to him without letting any light in or having any interaction with him?

lol awesome, will be interesting to see if he goes crazy or maybe nothing happens and he easily makes it trough. Some scientific value for the world as voluntary darkness like this might have never been done and recorded before. Being on nonstop stream for 30 days would be extra tough for me personally.

Obviously there's a lot I'd have to negotiate in the fine details but I'd definitely consider doing something like this, I'm the other way around--I have to go without human interaction. I'd bet I've actually done 30 straight days never talking to anyone in my life at some point.

A lot of you would have no shot at this obviously.

You guys are also missing the drive to win and especially money pushes people past normal limits.

The constant dark is the biggest challenge, but I definitely wouldn't go insane over it, I do expect I'd lose all track of time/days at some point so I'd probably want something that told me what day it was.

Unless they are under or over feeding him he can sort of keep track of time by the amount of food he has eaten.

A guy I play with has bet another player 100k he can stay in a DARK bathroom, with no human interaction for 30 days. I’m not 100% on the specifics of the bet, but from what I understand:

*Door will remain unlocked and he can choose to leave (& lose the bet) at anytime.
*There will be literally no light & therefore no real way to gauge day/night/time left in the bet.
*He has a refrigerator (w/no light) & will have ample food/water. Fresh food will be delivered sporadically but it’s somehow being done without him having any human interaction?
*He has toiletries, towels, some sort of a bed/pillow, a paddleball & Rubik’s cube?
*No alcohol/sleep aids/drugs are allowed.
*He will be given whatever vitamins are needed.
*There is some sort of livestream/camera set-up to ensure no cheating.
*If he stays in the room the full 30 days, he wins 100k. If he gives up, it costs him 100k.

Personally, I think he’s an underdog to succeed. I wouldn’t do this bet for any amount of money as I think there’s danger of lasting psychological damage for anyone not very experienced with meditation & isolation.

He started a few days ago. I’ll update if I hear anything exciting. What do you guys think? Easy money or drawing dead?

Does anyone still think this joke of a story is true? It was more believable before the extra details came out.

Now we have his lawyer sister watching the guy 24/7, and that one best result might be a TV show of an almost black screen with a guy either doing nothing for a month or slowly going insane and blind in front of willing witnesses.

So if after a week the guy is screaming to be let out and clawing at and smashing his face on the walls, the lawyer sister will use as her defence that the door was open and he could have walked out at any time - it was his free choice to self-harm - while the State Prosecution is claiming that this was the very case that started a spate of kidnapping and inhumane torture in the guise of innocent new betting games?

Actually, it's probably advertising for a new book. I'll buy it.

Ya know after reading this I think most people (me included) have been thinking about it the wrong way. It's probably not a torture test for this guy, it's something he actually wants to do. Which could be why he took even odds. Maybe he views it as a bonus for doing a dark retreat he's been wanting to do.

If you view it as torture it seems impossible. If you're into meditations etc maybe it's within reach. I know I certainly couldn't but I guess it's up some folks alley.

pretty sure they've done studies on this and the answer is like 4 days before most people start losing it. 30 days he has 0 chance.

This is a huge part of the bet as reported.

I think it's low single digits he completes this with the current information provided.

There are people I would bet on this with the proper preparation, perhaps even myself, but reportedly without prep, I just don't see many paths to victory.

Agreed. I know it's been posted already, but if people haven't seen it, the VSauce video on isolation is very interesting and pretty scary.

The time thing completely throws him, and he's way off trying to estimate it after only three days.

Taking this bet on at 1:1 with no research or preparation says everything you need to know about Alati's intelligence.

Grunch.

Wow, this bet is a schizoid person's dream!

1. To be left in solitude for 30 days without annoying relatives and such.

2. And to boost the net worth to make it enough to relocate to a peaceful dwelling in a developing country and never have to deal with any coworkers again!

The treatment of the resulting circadian rhythm disorder would cost a small fraction of the prize (especially for someone who's been living in a dark room already ).

Where do I sign up for a $10K version of this?

a refrigerator with a front and back door would be perfect. Load the food from the back without the person in the room knowing about it. No interaction, noise or light.

I'm on the side of zero chance this is successful.
