The amazing thing was Baazov getting arrested and facing criminal charges. If we'd been offered that in Jan 2016 we'd have taken it.

But seriously the 2 amazing things he turned out to be talking about were that Duel postal HU format that sank without trace and going big on twitch streaming about 18 months after it was cool.

Our team wasn't lacking in experience either, I used to be a highstakes MTT reg(don't play for a living anymore really) and we had other experienced players on the team.

The game was genuinely very interesting, and created a ton of strategic depth. In fact we had to work hard to make sure it wasn't too complicated or unbalanced, and I think we ended up in a good spot.

Also just one more point, we started developing this in 2015 when I came on board and at this point no one had ever heard of HoldemX so this was definitely not any kind of ripoff. I've also played HoldemX and with all due respect I think this game is 10x times better.

Anyways, I really hope this game succeeds. I do also believe there's a market for it. I'm not sure how much I can really talk about it because the NDA but all I can say is that people should give it a shot before dismissing it.
Do you now work for a PR Firm representing Pokerstars?

Tried it and tought it was pretty cool. But the format should pbb be HU. Colluding will be rampant 3handed with these powerups if it ever is for real money.

I don't play Heartstone, but it's nothing like it? I don't see how you would be buying cards. Pokerstars might find a way, but i think mostly it will just be SNGs with rake and a "fair" game otherwise.

This game is honestly very fun, too bad it will never be played for any meaningful stakes as the ppl this attracts aren't really the kind of people who have thousand of dollars to lose. But definitely will play it occasionally for fun when it comes for real mony.

Personally, I'm excited for new games like this. I think there's a gap in the market for new real money competitive games, and that Pokerstars is in the right position to start capitalizing on this gap. Moving forward as traditional poker variants become more and more solved and infested with centaurs/bots, these games have the potential to revitalize the dream and attract more fish.

On a more general note, Pokerstars seems to be off to a good start in 2017. With the recent proactive bans (locks/investigations?) of Oborra and 40and7, and now this, they appear to be focused on the future in a way that is finally more mutually beneficial to the players and their company.

Personally, I think that your post should come with a disclaimer clarifying that you work for Pokerstars.

Also, I think that the people who currently run Pokerstars are morons.

The above statements constitute my personal opinion and furthemore, I believe that greedy shortsighted people shouldn't be in a position to run billion dollar companies.

Indeed. X-Ray is total rubbish - I use it immediately in the hand where it's dealt to me, just to free up a slot in my deck for a stronger power. It would be playable if it showed both hole cards of each opponent, and even then it wouldn't be overwhelmingly strong because the opponents would still be able to cancel its action fully or partially by means of Reload, Upgrade or Scanner.

So overall, how big/low would you say is a similarity of Power Up with classic poker? Skill vs luck ratio?
Also how many special cards are there to choose from?

It's very different from classic poker and the role of skill is bigger than in Spin & Gos imo.

Each player has 3 slots for special cards (powers), can play any number of them on his/her turn (except when EMP has been played, blocking all the powers for the duration of one street). There are 9 powers in total. At the start of every hand, if the player has fewer than 3 powers, 1 power is dealt to him/her randomly out of those that s/he doesn't have yet. Using a power costs between 2 and 5 energy points. Each player has 15 energy pts at the start of the SNG, gains 2 pts at the start of every hand, up to the maximum energy balance of 20 pts.

Read the tutorial at the Power Up page at Stars' website for all the details - it's easier for you to learn from there than for me to type the entire rules here.
