Is there any possibility of this game ever being grindable or is it just a rakefest?

8% rake at micros and 7% at mids (the $7 game has 7% rake, presumably the $15 will have that or lower) seems reasonable given how long the games last and the high skill to the game. Though given the complexity, they're obviously not conducive to heavy multi-tabling.

The animations are real slow. Not just for using the powerups, for every action. I guess it's deliberate to make things easier for the recreationals playing on their phones and harder for the regs to grind.

In BBV I predicted this could bring you and NMHU back into the game. Thoughts?

There's a serious issue that I'm surprised no one has mentioned previously:

Your time keeps running even as you play a power. Now it makes sense to have the time run as you choose which cards to upgrade, engineer, etc., but there's no way to speed up the graphics. It's possible to play a power up then time out because the graphics take too long. If this happens, you have wasted a power up, energy, and worst of all have your hand mucked --> super frustrating!

The ideal solution would be to have the time pause while the graphics are in progress. Alternatively, make it so you are not allowed to play a power up so late in your allotted time that you are guaranteed to time out. At least this way you don't time out and waste a power up.

Considering the relatively short time per move in this game, if you don't have any timebank, you must play your power up in the first couple seconds of your turn if you don't want to time out. There is definitely not sufficient time to think of a play and execute it. Seems like a major oversight by PS.

Zoogenhiem,

I recommend you repost that to this thread: https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/2...ad-119016-new/ - it'll find it's way to those who can fix it.

You actually don't have to wait for the animation to finish to make your next action; but I agree it's confusing.

I haven't played too much but for things like Engineer and Upgrade I think there is some minimum amount of time you have to wait. Anyways I think you should get some amount of extra time when you do play a PowerUp in case you don't decide to use one until the last second or you have a close decision on what card to throw away, for instance.

Played a few games, I kind of liked it. But after I am used to play board games / CCGs etc. in the past so didn't surprise me.

Unlikely, unless there's lower rake in high buy-ins and even then hard to see it.

This requires too much attention and game is slower so brainless multitablinging grinders are never able to beat it with huge volume. At least until some software appears with HEM2-style stats for Powers

Nice recreational game, which will probably bring some Hearthstone-players to the game. Also easy to see rather popular as streamed in Twitch... plain Texas Hold'em is rather ultra boring after all.

I am actually really waiting up to see if this kicks some fire in MTT form. Might be great format, if they just can make it work properly.

Think that power up is a solid format but it has its flaws. Rake is also too big to make it beatable. Fun for a few games

Yes, Power Up MTTs would be the only PU format that I'd agree to play regularly, due to the high short-term luck factor / Dunning-Kruger effect and bigger prizes (relatively to the BI) that the PU SnGs are lacking.

PU is too slow for an SnG. Apparently, not even all recs like its slowness (judging by the discussion on Stars' Discord). The main reason for not rolling $15s out yet are the numerous bugs, but after they're fixed, it will probably take long until there's enough recreational interest in a rollout of $30s.

Even at the $3s, the ratio of beginners to rather experienced players is rather low, as far as I've seen. Weak and lazy players realise too quickly how much they fail at this game.

This is in conrast to Spin & Go Max, where the $60 BI has been added surprisingly quickly - the Dunning-Kruger is strong there, and enough people have come to a conclusion that they're well-bankrolled for the $60s

Similarly, PU MTTs would be gathering enough action at decent ($22+) stakes quite soon after their launch.

First time playing this today and it seems very fun and fairly beatable. To break even with the rake you only have to win ~36% of the time which doesn't seem to hard to me.

So far I am a big fan.

The game is still in beta and the rules keep changing as we go.

For example the maximum energy points was 20; now they put it to 15.

I'm not saying change is bad; but since it is in beta then we should get some kind of promo as "testers".

Just a suggestion; maybe double the VIP points given while it is in beta?

I'm sure when the game officially lunches, there will be promos and challenges related to it. Anyway the more goodies they give the more people will play it.

What do you think of the 15 limit? In my experience people were waiting too long to play cards, so the lower limit should help people play better. Not necessarily a plus.

I'm in the US and just downloaded the PS client to play Power Up for play money. The power up page is stuck on "You are invited to play Power Up. Loading..."

Is there something wrong with the Beta at the moment? Or is it user error? If it is user error, anyone have any suggestions on how to fix?

Thanks

Edit: Nvm, I got it to work on my windows computer. I'm guessing the mac version of PS is probably buggy... poker clients always seem to be buggy on macs.

This is a great example of a recreational player that cares about rake and is rake aware

Nevermind, was only down for ~10 minutes. Support said they fixed some issues. I wish they'd keep a changelog.
