Power Up is going to be the most sophisticated game that Amaya has ever produced. The complexity of this game is an exception from Amaya's tendency to reduce the skill gap in poker, and I'm happy that this exception exists.

It just plays too slow on practice when players pondering what ability to play each time. And then 14% rake is too much.

Yes the rake is pretty intense! Good thing it's just play money, but still ...

Other low-limit play money SNGs have 15% rake, so the 14% one on Power Up is nothing extraordinary. The question is whether Stars will make the rake on real-money Power Up 10% like it did with real-money Beat The Clock, or whether it will break the tradition and make it 12% or higher

milky, the new game showed up for me looking like this, with a new tab after the latest update ...

Looks like on the reddit page it says it's available on .com, .eu, and .net (https://www.reddit.com/r/pspowerup/c...lpha_is_now/)? Not sure ... does that mean everybody might be able to try it on the .net play money client, if it's not showing up on your regular one?

Not sure

So I ****ing love this game. Some random thoughts:

Upgrade should be really worth more than Reload (both are 5pts atm). I get that in combination with Engineer they are basically identical (since you would know what card to ditch anyway before you use Upgrade). But used on their own Upgrade is way better than Reload, since the latter can actually make your hand worse. Also the combination of Intel followed by Reload is basically identical to Upgrade, though with the added bonus of knowing when you can save your reload; that justifies the higher added cost of 8 somewhat.

Some of these powers really line up nicely with classical poker skills. For example to use Disintegrate effectively it requires you to have an idea if that card you nuke really helps your opponent. More than once I had people heads up nuking cards that I was thinking about nuking, before checking to them to see what happens. Also the value of some powers depends on stack sizes. E.g. imo Intel is more valuable if the stacks involved are still somewhat deep, and you're more likly to have a decision on every street. If you or your opponent are in PF shove or fold mode, it's next to useless; there you want to have, say, EMP as the shover, or Upgrade/Reload as the caller.

Nitpick: What's up with the silly random avatars and the 8 sentence options chat? The latter might be motivated by preventing lengthy chat discussions which would make that game even slower (because it is slow for 3-handed; I don't mind that though). But maybe they're testing out other GUI options on the side while they're at it?

The rationale behind the removal of text chat must be the prevention of chat abuse. The majority of polite convos between recs consist of those 8 standard phrases anyway.

Power Up is already a game of draws like Omaha because additional cards can be pulled from the deck using Upgrade, Reload, Engineer or Scanner. I don't see a need to deal more than 2 hole cards - a single pair seldom wins on showdown if the opponent uses those powers, much like in PLO.

Would really like to try this game. Been trying to play on PS.net since the day it came out but have as yet been unable to do so do to technical difficulties. I'm emailing directly with PowerUp developers via PS support, but thus far after five back and forths each with different very precise potential solutions, it still does not run for me. The basic issue is that the PowerUp page loads but when I try to register the application crashes. Hopefully I get to play before they stop the alpha. Game sounds really fun and complex.

Regarding the restricted chat, my best guess is that was one or more of the following:
- a mobile optimization thing (hard to type and play on mobile but easy to select a message)
- a video game thing (many multiplayer online games such as billiards have chat like this)
- a Zynga poker thing (idk how chat is on Zynga but wouldn't be surprised if it were in this model

Colorful avatars are also popular with video games, mobile games, and Zynga-esque play money poker.

The fact that you can't colour code or take notes on opponents concerns me.
Hopefully this is just not implemented yet and not necessarily wanted.

The lacking chat i don't mind at all.

I think Heathstone has chat like this to make it more kid friendly. That doesn't apply to poker at all though.

Thanks to PS Support for being really helpful and eventually getting PowerUp to work for me. Playing my first ever game right now. These things take quite awhile. I can already tell the meta-game is quite rich.

Exhale hand:
Sb limps, I have meh hand but play the Engineer card, none of the cards to choose help me so I just pick one, but the whole time I was planning on jamming regardless, because now I look very strong. Similarly I played the X-ray card with 92 on Q74 board before bluffing to not only let me decide if I want to bluff or not but imply with my bet that because I saw their card then bet I'm more likely to be strong. Of course as the game expands there will be lots of leveling, and I love it!

I dont think it had a good feedback from general public

When it launched there were alwyas 200+ games running

Now it doesnt get 100 not even on higher traffic times

The traffic is lower on weekdays than at weekends, and some of the early adopters have become bored of playing for fake money and are waiting for a real-money release.

But yes, Stars will have to maintain a consistent influx of new powers to keep the game alive (and also to protect it from bots).

Open folding buttons for energy or folding pre after oppenent uses powers seems to be too strong.

Look at the daily challenges, they are giving it all back to you and more. play 1 game=25000PC, win 20 hands 50k, etc.

This game is very addictive

Don't forget that there the 'Collect' button in the cashier that allows to add 12500 play chips for free every 4 hours.

The buy-in of 1000 chips is actually very low by play money standards.

I had this same issue in Windows 7 as I discuss in a previous post. After a week-long back and forth with support, who were very kind and helpful, I finally got it working. I suggest you email them (support@pokerstars.com). You can PM me to get the solution they gave me if you want.

It's gone for me too, not surprisingly:

He said definitely, real money was the plan. But again, no schedule.

He also kept repeating that this was just the "tip of the iceberg", lots of other cards have been designed and could come out, among other innovations and changes.

Also one other thing that I didn't realize until listening to the stream - this test period will only be up for a limited time. It's going to get pulled down again soon, presumably once they have some customer play data they want to go behind the curtain again and develop it further.
I'm holding my fingers crossed for a new top-level lobby tab to replace the 'Power Up' in the coming weeks (perhaps 'Spin & KO' ). As we say in Russia, 'a holy place is never empty' (= nature abhors a vacuum).
