Surprise Surprise!

PokerStars has lowered the buy-in of Sunday Million to $109 permanently.

One Re-Entry, Blinds/Structure remains the same.

Payout structure yet to be revealed.

Yeah, but now it only costs $109 buy-in. That means more recreational players and a bigger possibility of it going overlay, don't you think?

They'll make another $15,000 if they just cover. That's basically pennies. Say what you want about them, but I don't think raising revenue by $15k was their primary motivation for this change.

I do think it will be interesting to see if they take opportunity to introduce a flatter payout structure.

Does this mean they will make the half price sunday million a 10.90 buy in (looks like they havn't from lobby there)? Sucks they did this tbh and i rather play a 109 than a 215 but meh it kind of takes the prestige away a bit (if presitige is the right word for binking in a mtt)

5k players on avg to go to 10k players?

As I understand it, all other tournaments stay as they were before. Is it less prestigious if the prize pool and 1st place prize is the same? Genuine question.

Overall seem good, more weak regs and fishes with same 1million prize pool.

Well, will they keep 1st prize the same? They would either have to seriously flatten the payout structure which is pretty bad on a tourney with 10k players or they would have gigantic gaps from the first 2 places to the rest of the paid players.
That would suck imo. Imagine grinding for hours the heck out of an 10k players field and getting kind of peanuts for coming 7th at the final table.

Yeah you're right, that's obviously not going to be exactly the same a double-sized field. Though there is kind of the suggestion in the poker client that the 1st place prize will remain at least $100k.

Bolding theirs. I guess that's no guarantee it will remain over $100k but it would be strange wording to add if they weren't planning that (found that in the 'news' tab of the client). Not quite the $150k now, but would a 6-fig 1st place be prestigious enough?

For anyone with 215$ sunday million ticket:

Quote:
Your ticket will be exchanged into 2x $109 Sunday Million tickets on the 25th of January, meaning you will get $3 in extra value.

Your ticket will be exchanged just in time for the tournament on the 27th.

lmao they increase the rake from 7.5% to 9% after you won that ticket and present themselves as the good samaritan for actually covering this rake increase as an "extra" for you.

I doubt the rake is the motivation but flatter payouts and lower top prizes keep more money online which is good for Stars. But the lower buy in is good for players as the field should be softer despite the 1 re-entry.

In balance it's pretty much a wash.

much less money to be made on avg from a 109$ than a 215$ though

Field is getting softer though, although I think intuitively you are right, just saying.

So people are going to spend 200+18 on the tournament instead of 200+15? Very subtle way to increase rake.

More rake is better!

What's going to happen to the runtime of the event? The last $215 was around 12 hours.

Ughhhh, I just so badly miss the opportunity to play the tourneys in general. So sick of Bovada and ACR to be the only 2 pathetic card rooms to play on. Oh I so badly miss the days of playing on Pokerstars and Fulltilt.

It’ll be interesting to see how this impacts the Warmup, which is still $215

holy **** this increases the runtime to probably 18h if the structure is going to stay the same, doesn't it?

So you need to play like how many hours to get itm? 12, 14?

The should move it to the Warmup start time. The majority of players would appreciate the earlier start time.
Or make it a 2 day event each week.

Never seen so many nits complain about $3 increase meanwhile buyin almost cut in half

More people would probably give it a shot now with the smaller buy in. Get more recs to give a shot.
