PokerStars Launches 6+ Hold'em - Page 2 - Poker News

Imagine two simple games, each with two players and $100 each ($200 total). They play until a player(s) have gone bust.

Game A: Maximum variance, players are equally balanced. Players simply flip a coin one time, and winner takes everything. Operator takes $1 per hand. First hand takes place, one player wins all the money.

Results:
Player A: $199 (+$99)
Player B: $0 (-$100)
Operator: $1 (+$1)

Game B: No variance, players are equally balanced. Players simply flip a coin over and over, with the only EV loss being to the rake. Operator takes $1 per hand. 200 hands take place, operator wins all the money.

Results:
Player A: $0 (-$100)
Player B: $0 (-$100)
Operator: $200 (+$200)

Obviously, this is an extremist example simply to show the impact of variance on rake. You could create a more "realistic" example (eg, compare how much rake is created before everyone goes bust in a 1,000 person double-or-nothing, vs a normal payout 1,000 MTT).

Higher variance games produce more action to compensate but the rake issue has been noted in PLO and limit poker and now potentially here.

you're right, only on UK and Sweden now for the global player pool, locally regulated sites. Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Romania Etc not yet included. Also nothing yet in the segregated markets like New Jersey Italy France Spain and India. Hopefully PokerStars will deploy it in more markets if and when they can.

You clowns don't know what you're talking about. The underlying maths and issue here have been publicly for literally years, I'm hardly sharing anything new. Here's a book which provides more detail, more maths, and more expertise on the issue.

I'm not really interested in arguing that the Earth is round with a bunch of flat earthers.

Lumping it in with the random other crap seems abit misguided

I mean it is a WSOP bracelet event. And it’s making inroads in live cash games, for some it’s their favorite

But they might be failing in marketing already if they are calling it Six Plus

I agree that calling it 6+ Hold'em doesn't seem optimal. Maybe the name Short Deck Hold'em is trademarked by someone or something?

Macau Poker is an obvious one

This is not really a gimmick game like the others recently. It has a championship event at WSOP and played at highest stakes. Some of it is due to pure Stars anger but they also need to market it better

Actually, IIRC this game is not even allowed to be played in Macau and they only play it at other Asian casinos

Seems like there's a bug in the game. Some people were managing to raise more than pot preflop.

Antes are $1, UTG limp $1, UTG+1 fold, MP maximum bet here? $10 imo?

I've been grinding 5NLz. Lost $50 in this, while 4-tabling, after being in the wrong end of way too many flips and a few bad beats. Oooops, guess 10 NLz will have to wait another week.

Seems like there's more variance than PLO, I'm curious to eventually see the graphs for this session.
