I ran into Dydynho last week at the same $15 limit that he had been playing in December... apparently, his ROI had converged to some single-digit value, and he had decided not to move up to $30

Also, it's clear from the screenshot that either there were a lot of non-Max spins in that sample, or he ran like God. Otherwise the average finish position wouldn't be 2.29 (Spin Max has ~5 entrants on average); it would be >2.5 for sure. Or perhaps he's very good at reading recreational opponents' hands postflop.

any idea if ICM has any place in these?
given the all in shootout phase it seems ICM doesnt make much sense anymore, but i guess its still partially useful

Of course it does, they pay out more than one person very often.

Also, setting yourself up to be in position going into the shootout phase also plays a role in strategy.

Yes, every time more then 1 player is paid in them icm big factor even when hands go all-in after x hands.
