When is the new VIP system scheduled to launch in 2017?

I'm 30k vpp away from supernova, worth it or not?

It's hard to give an accurate answer to your questions because the information regarding the new changes hasn't been divulged in it's entirety.

But given Amaya's handhistory vs regz, I'd say most likely what woolly said.

Don't we know it's going to be monthly? So you could just do 8333 in January if it turns out to be worth it.

In case you would be a first-time SN, i'd go for it as you'll get 500$ for it which equals 10% rakeback on top for those 30k VPPs. Else i wouldn't bother.

Thats about the changes they can come up with.

I'm not sure there will be supernova next year. In fact, i'm not sure any of the current VIP status levels or the current VIP program in it's entirety will still be in place come the start of 2017.

I could be way off the mark but, my gut feeling is that they could very well end up putting something in place that is similar to the current 888 Poker rewards program and the current set-up could be a thing of the past.

I hope they don't go down that road but, the way things have progressed over the last few months leans towards pretty significant changes ahead and it wouldn't surprise me to see a brand new rewards set-up.

So lazy ass casual gamers get rewarded for playing casino games and people taking poker seriously get xxxxed. Online poker is pretty much the only game i know, where winners and high volume player get punished for their contribution to the game.
And they dare to talk about what's better for the "vast majority of players"? I mean this is a lie anyway, because recs were far far better off before the changes, but don't realize it, because
a) they don't play enough to measure it
b) they hate regulars up to a point that they ignore how much more rake they pay and how much less rewards they get

Don't know why people are expecting details yet. Pokerstars does not even know what they are. The changes are most likely not going to take place January 1st. What they said in the announcement was there is going to be changes sometime in 2017. That is why Supernova is going to become month by month in January. It will continue till whenever they do make the changes and then will probably go away with the changes. They at least learned something from the SNE ****up.

As for the question of should you complete SN in 2016, the answer is yes if you want to get SN benefits for the 3 or 6 months of 2017 till it goes away with the new changes once they have figured out what they will be. If you are close and don't complete it then you are just pissing away the extra money while it lasts.

I agree with you.

The damage to the VIP program has already been done. It no longer serves as an example of value. Currently it's viewed as a reminder on how Amaya screwed over its players. From Amaya's pov they are better off just dropping it altogether. There wouldn't be much of an outrage to be honest. Believe me when I say that. I have an excellent grasp on how players react. And if the VIP program went to 5% at this point people wouldn't care. The ones that would have cared have already written off Amaya as a greedy monopoly that doesn't care about its customers so what's one more nail going to do?
As for the recs... well they apparently don't care too much about rb/rake or the vip program so their impression of the site won't change too much.

Why are you trying to encourage them to remove rewards? The more they increase effective rake the less the incentive for regs/recs to play. Just silly trying to justify this on public poker forum. Serves no purpose and encourages them to continue on the path they are on.

what sect is saying is unfortunate for players but its true and its very naive to suggest that he is saying anything that stars haven't already figured out for themselves

fwiw i dont think he is trying to justify stars behavior at all, just pointing out that the damage to their reputation has already been done in the eyes of the people who pay attention to this sort of thing

well the amount of games have dropped insanely, and it has nothing to do with with seasonal or year to year trend. Its just that many ppl left playing online poker or changed site, regs and recs.
ppl just come to play SCOOP etc. Are they gonna continue the road they`ve taken? we shall see how long they want to last.

the problem they have now is that they are caught up in a vicious circle that happens to many businesses and its difficult to turn around.

it reminds me of a bar i drank in all the time, used to be super popular selling average price beer and cheap pizza. owners see how well its doing and start thinking if we raise prices a little bit will make a bunch more money.

first time its ok bar is still always really busy so they raise prices again and now its a bit overpriced and less people are going there. now in this spot many people would realise ok what we are selling is too expensive now and reduce prices but instead they decide to raise them even more to try and compensate for less customers.

but now even less people go there so they raise prices even more to try and keep takings at same level and before you know it hardly anyone is drinking there anymore. now even if they drop prices back down its going to be difficult to get traffic back to old levels as people have moved on and many will never return.

occasionally i still go in there, see how dead it is and cant help but think of pokerstars and what greedy owners can do to a really successful business

That's the Thai business model. During low season with very few tourists they raise their prices LOL.

As Spud said I'm not saying anything that Pstars hasn't already thought about. They can either continue on the path that leads to higher margins on less players or they can retract all their moves since 2012 and take lower margins but off of more players. Since the latter option wouldn't show immediate results (to apiece shareholders) I figure they will go for the former option which will cause them irreparable damage in the long run... (but shareholders aren't too concerned about this).

Spud- excellent example about the bar, same thing happened to Paradise Poker after UIGEA.

We are committed to keeping you updated as the details are finalized, and want to share with you what we can, when we can. In that spirit, here’s the latest:

VIP Club Changes

The current VIP Club program will remain in effect until the launch of the new program, and rewards will be unchanged on January 1, 2017, for monthly status players. Supernova will become a monthly status, and will offer 28% in rewards. Here’s an overview of next year’s VIP Club changes:

Monthly VIP status rewards and requirements will remain unchanged
Supernova VIPs will earn 28% in rewards
Players who achieve Supernova status in 2016 will retain Supernova status until the launch of the new rewards program in 2017
For players who don’t achieve Supernova status this year, Supernova will have a monthly status requirement of 10,000 VPPs
When the new program launches, existing VIP statuses will be replaced by the program’s new reward mechanisms
An announcement of the new rewards program launch date will be made at least two months in advance
Effective July 1, 2017, StarsCoin balances will expire for players who have been inactive on all Stars platforms (PokerStars, Full Tilt, PokerStars Casino, BetStars) over a 6-month rolling period

What’s next?

Expect our next update to include more details regarding the new loyalty program, including how it will work and the timing of the launch.
