In 2017, date still to be determined, we will launch a new rewards program that recognises your play on poker, casino, and sportsbook (where available) and rewards you for recent activity, not monthly or annual play volumes. As a result, from January 1, Supernova VIP status will become a monthly status for players until the launch of the new rewards program.

While we understand that the 2016 VIP Club changes have impacted some of our highest-volume players, they have had a positive impact for the vast majority of our players, improving the overall game experience. A higher percentage of hands are seeing the flop in cash games, player deposits are lasting longer, which along with other such trends indicate a more healthy poker ecosystem, with long-term sustainability.

As we look to the future, we will offer an even more exciting and engaging rewards program with a continued focus on recreational players. Here’s a look at what’s coming up:

Rewards for all of your activity
Earn rewards not just by playing poker, but if you are in eligible areas, for casino games and making sports bets on BetStars. You won’t be required to play on any specific product, but your activity on all products will help you progress on your path to earning rewards.

Rewards based on recent activity
Currently, your VIP progress resets each month, but our rewards should be personalized to your recent gaming activity and profile, not your monthly or annual play volumes, to improve player retention and engagement at all levels. As a result, our current VIP statuses will be discontinued upon launch of the new program and replaced with a new program rewarding your recent activity.

2017 Rewards
As announced via our website at the start of 2016, currently advertised Supernova rewards are for this year only. The value of rewards in 2017 are subject to change.

From January 1, Supernova will be a monthly status for players who achieve it in 2017, while players who earn Supernova status in 2016 will retain it until the launch of the new rewards program. The value of VIP rewards and monthly VIP status requirements for 2017 are still subject to change.

What’s next?
Expect a detailed update on our new reward program later in the year, including timing of launch and more details of the program as they are finalized.

So greater or equal volume for less vip points, how does this help recs?

A higher percentage of hands are seeing the flop in cash games, player deposits are lasting longer,
^lies until proven otherwise.

This and and the next rake increase cycle will probably pull the plug for good for online poker as a professional job. But if it means cash game players get to see more flops it's all worth it.

the extra rake may be part of a cash grab yes maybe theyll use some of it in increased mtt guarantess. (one can hope).

the extra rake is also for the purpose of cutting back on the pros/grinders. those 16 tabling people using software click click clicking. they are making it so those people are forced to play less tables/less volume but make the sessions count. basically they are trying to level the edge against the recs and force players to play smarter and make the sessions count or the rake paid through long sessions is too much at times to overcome.

they are basically saying u want to earn a living at playing poker no problem. but you're gonna have to earn your money like the average rec/fish does by making your sessions count more. yes its a punishment to those who grind out 16-24 tables many hours a day.

i see what they are doing. kudos pokerstars. fantastic job!!!!

many arent going to like this cause they are spoiled using the software for insane volume. the extra rake compensates for the less volume the grinders and multitablers will pay.

Wouldn't it be easier to just limit the number of tables one can play? I would understand that.

I haven't read the small print, but this sounds like a great change for recreational players.

Of course, grinders will be unhappy and make their opinions known on forums like this. But poker sites should not be catering to grinders.

By this logic you are saying regs are going to have to play better, in turn making recs bigger losers in the games they play due to increased ability - The opposite of what PS are "supposedly" trying to do re: the whole poker ecology, recs lose money slower spiel.

**** off amaya, i was going to type something thought out but literally anything they do is just so frustrating.

RIO poker please somehow become massive and overtake this selfish, short-sighted downhill company.

(the rewards for playing casino is w.e , probably good to give back to the gamblers who will lose money there anyways, but with more changes to VIP / vip system change i feel they are going to cut out literally any positive rakeback that people who play often get. Don't worry those chromestars who play twice a month will get an extra 50 cents back though!!!!)

they are accounting for the loss of revenue when people who multitable to insane degrees are forced to play less tables because of the rake increase. which is what they want, they still need to ensure a revenue stream but are prepared to take somewhat of a hit. because they know its going to piss some people off like they already have and they dont care what those players think about the changes. they figure those people are addicted and will always come back at some point because they have the biggest pool and the mtts are juicy enough to keep the recs/fish plus the potential to make money is still there and after the SNE thing those that were whining the most about it proved they couldnt stay away. changing the reward structure for sn-elites and such was the first step/ clue that this was coming. they arent say dont multi table they are just saying if you can and beat the rake good for you but we are going to take a cut to discourage you from trying it. what they do with that money who knows but they are a business looking at expansions and other things. you dont think starsnj is paying for itself do you?

the other thing is some are too arrogant and egotistical and think they have more skill than they really do. i have a feeling their "luck" is going to change. karma is leveling/balancing out the poker ecosystem through stars.
poker is not on this earth to be an exclusive game for a priviliged few to profit from. count your blessings be gratefull for what you get. but people forget that and become spoiled. you'll see. but what do i know im just some "whacko" who is "clueless.". the creator is changing manys lives. REPENT AND YOU SHALL BE SAVED. lol

forgot- on the bright side maybe RIO is the future option for some of those mass tabling nits and others who are unhappy with stars. stars will be around as long as there is online poker.

Of course. It's not a skill game unless you have to overcome 15bb/100 in rake to make any profit.
