i don't understand, why it's so difficult to see the difference between an ambassador, a team pro and a team pro online signing. according to the press release she's a model and now has a role in a tv series. if she is a known (and attractive) face, why does she need to be good at poker, to be 'just' an ambassador. such a signing will attract new users.

for the german market: i think you're referring to Natalie Hof ... no doubt she's attractive, but she's smart and somehow known within the german community (e.g. she participated in a poker tv show), so there plenty of other reasons, why she was chosen.

Great idea. If you want to attract new players to poker, or make it seem like a cool pastime for fun, a famous celebrity who just started playing will draw more interest than an online pro noone has heard of.

As for needing knowledge of poker to be a poker ambassador, why should the standard be higher than for real country ambassadors? They are routinely appointed based on how much they contribute to a president's campaign. Many have no knowledge of their country until after they get appointed.

But I agree. Sponsorships are not meant to be TLB prizes. If you want to attract recreationals then people saying "Look how much fun I am having as a recreational poker player." is the way to go.

I'm not well placed to judge this person's image in Japan. Of course if it's the kind of advertising recommended by third-rate advertising agencies based on "Our product is crap so we're going to show you a hot girl instead." then it won't work because that isn't an attractive message. I know Vicky Coren has been perceived by US posters as being primarily there for looks/female-status when she has a much broader profile and appeal in the UK than that - so maybe this particular sponsorship isn't what it looks like to non-Japanese people.
