I don't think it was mentioned that it affects Full Tilt as well. Atleast I can not play from Malaysia.

Seriously? The only reason for black friday was the government? People don't forget what lead up to it all. Party Poker pulled out of the US way before anyone else did as a result of legal concerns. Pretty much with no warning. Party Poker was a publically traded company when they did this. They did this because of US Laws and foresight. Pokerstars is a publically traded company now. Maybe people should really be looking at their own governments and laws than blaming pokerstars here.

Didn't I read that players are still able to withdraw their bankroll?

I mean as disappointing as this is for the people in these countries relying on the site it's not as if Pokerstars announcing they were going to cease operating there would have made much difference other than from a courteousy perspective.

You're 98% of the way to SNE.

Could have given regs some time to plan relocating.

So are these players in these countries able to withdraw their balances immediately? Also what happens if they have a ton of tournament dollars? What in the world happens with those assuming they either have a ton of them and bought tournament dollars from others for pokerstars funds? What about their fpps? What if they are registered in some tournaments? Are they going to get unregistered and whatever they are registered into they will get credited back their account?

I was an american back when pokerstars left a few years back. I did recall when this happened, i was able to use all my fpp to purchase those $4000, 250000 fpp pokerstars bonuses. Then later on in the day, no one could purchase anything with their fpp. Does any american recall how long was it before stars allowed them to use their fpp to buy the cash bonuses?

Also what happened to those with tournament dollars or those that were already registered into tournaments back then? Did pokerstars unregister each tournament you registered for and then refunded your buyin for each tournament? I'm curious about this a few years back because on black friday, i wasn't playing at the time and just saw that message when i logged on. I of course remembered stars allowed us to withdraw our balances after 1 week i believe or so.

After reading this article, it may be that Amaya does not want to violate the laws of any country.

Specifically mentioned in the article are
Bhutan
Afghanistan
Cayman Islands
Indonesia
Algeria
Vatican City
Pakistan
North Korea

The Koran declares any type of gambling evil and as such Muslims are not allowed to participate, which takes care of almost all the other countries on the PokerStars list.

If the Pope were to be an online poker player I'm pretty confident he would have no problem continuing to play on Stars from the Vatican.

PartyPoker gave tons of warning. They said they were pulling out as soon as Bush signed the bill into law. It took awhile for that to happen and once he finally did it, they pulled out that day.

interesting, there will more countries to add to that list once pokerstars/Amaya confirms this assuming its correct information. Australia, New Zealand, China being the 3 biggest markets I can think of that pokerstars currently provides a service whilst breaching online gambling legislation.

That list looks like it's tailored specifically to money-laundering. I.e., places with possible terrorist groups and/or "blacklist countries." Kind of a "show-you" step to US or other regulators?

Vatican City is a pretty strong tell, why the else f- would it be on there. They've been caught up in some money laundering scandals as of late with some unsavory characters - do they even have any Stars-registered accounts, lol?

Yes you are american, and the doj and your government likely in tandem with the NSA and help from CIA shut down your money and seized it.

Poker stars is a functioning company still. It's kind of different.

Can't find the links, the Vatican tiffed with the US earlier this year, and is not doing well with the UN. Prob not paying their kickbacks.

To all the countries listed: America hates you.

It looks like a significant change in philosophy. Under the previous owners, I believe the stance was (and I am paraphrasing it) something like "It is the responsibility of each player to determine if the service is legal in your jurisdiction", with the exception of the U.S. settlement. Under the new owners, it looks like (again paraphrasing) "If it is illegal in your jurisdiction, we do not offer real money games in your jurisdiction".
