This isn't entirely true. There are multiple turkish websites where you can bet on sports like football.
Although yes gambling in Turkey is "illegal" the government more or less turns a blind eye on internet gambling.
I can't believe the Turkish government has had any say in this happening. I will have more concrete info in the next 24-48 hours, but just don't/can't believe the Turkish government had any influence over this decision.
Not only that but the pop up i received said "stars and 3rd party blah blah blah"
