So worth keeping in mind that in ES/FR/PT, IT and IN, PokerStars uses the blind lobby "Seat Me" system - no seat selection, no table selection, no wait lists (like how Unibet and RIO does it)
So this (which must have taken quite a lot of effort to implement) is somewhere in the middle. Reduce the so-called "predatory" behavior, still allow table selection. Suggests to me they don't want to enable Seat Me globally - they're trying this out as a middle ground.
So to people saying that PokerStars hates regs etc - keep in mind that they could have gone full Blind Lobby. Instead they've opted for this, which still allows table/seat selection.

Don't see how this will have much effect on lower stakes. Regs will just join one random table and tank every decision while spam joining a million waiting lists. As soon a seat at any of the good tables opens, they'll insta leave the first table.
It is not clear in the blog post, but I had it clarified: You have to be active on one "linked" table
for every wait list you want to be on. Want to join 3 wait lists? That's three tables that need to be active.

are the "waiting tables" hidden from the lobby?
edit: nvm, turns out these tables look like any other table in the lobby and are free for any player to join.
Right - it's best to think about this not as "waiting tables" but just "active tables." If you want to be on 1 wait list, you need to be active on 1 (same game, same stakes) table. 2 wait lists, 2 tables.
When you try and join a wait list, if you are already playing on another table, this one will be your "linked" active table.
This means you can table select your "linked" waiting table If you're not, then the lobby will offer to seat you automatically on another table so you can join the wait list. But this is optional - you can still pick your own.

When you get your seat, you are prompted to either leave or stay at your "linked" table.

It was live for me yesterday in the UK and micros when I tested it. I was told it was live on all dot-com markets, but not all stakes yet.
I saw some bugs in the implementation yesterday. So possibly they paused the roll out while the ironed out the kinks.

I just join the waiting list, join the obligatory table and sit out there until i get the notification
As noted, if you sit out, you'll never win a table draw for a free seat, unless you're the only one on the table.
Also, the longer you are active on the table, the more likely you are to win the seat draw. So it not just
requires active playing, but it
rewards playing for a long time. It is not a first-come, first-serve system.
