I'm sure ESPN had more money and staffing to put effort into background and interviews. I guess ESPN had enough staff to be able to pursue interesting storylines as they developed in front of them rather than relying on pre planned story lines, though I imagine Doyle, Hellmuth, Ferguson (remember his card trick segments?), Annie Duke, Daniel and their ilk were always planned stories.

I couldn't find the online article, but I posted in this thread previously that CBS Sports was going to put together 'TV ready' episodes of the ME for broadcast starting later in 2022. I'm not sure if any of the other events will be converted, so to speak.

I was surprised at the pace of the tournament right up until there were 35 left, then I knew it would hit a wall going down to final table. Final table was 'OK' but I think they should've had 4 coming back for Day 2. You just never know. There's no way that the HU should've been over that quickly, but (to quote Nick Schulman) here we are ... GL

According to my guide the coverage on CBS Sports starts this Thursday with the 100k High Roller and the $2500NL, then Next week with the 25K HU and $25k High Roller on the 27th.

My fear is that they're just going to chop up the stream clips and put zero effort into making it more palatable. Can't speak for the prelims, but the Main Event has potential to be an extremely entertaining product (see: 2003-2008). As I've said many times, ESPN got greedy and sacrificed quality for quantity by stretching it out from 5-6 hours in 2003 to an obscene number of episodes in latter years (20-30 hours at least). It became nothing but filler. They watered down the product, ratings and interest dropped, and then they didn't want the license anymore. Surprise surprise. It's called shooting yourself in the foot. Hopefully PokerGo will create a killer edited Main Event product and CBS will blast it to everyone.

If you want a good edited product, you should hope CBS has the raw footage and is doing the editing. PG does streams. CBS vastly more experience in edited production.

I thought ME coverage on Poker Go was pretty good except they skipped most of the Day 1s. In the ME, Day 1s are a ton of fun. The rest of their coverage was pretty horrible because they focus on high rollers and the higher the buy-in, the less I want to see it (ME excepted). I have said this before, but the model for the past few years for me is the EPT. You have James Hartigan and Joe Stapleton and an analyst that they mix up. It is always interesting and they cover multiple days of events. Poker Go and only last five in a tournament was just horrible.

That said, I know not everyone likes long form poker. So, they also need edited versions. Honestly, put this stuff on a streaming site and they probably do OK with ads. I already cancelled my Poker Go sub because I have zero interest in their programmed high roller stuff. Next year I will sign up for one month only to see ME. And, while the commentating was decent, I am not a big fan of Ali, Nick, and Jamie. Especially this year, Ali seems to have devolved some, almost ike he is trying to be Norman Chad and Nick has always been annoying. Jamie just screws up analysis constantly. I will take Lon and Norm because they are entertaining. I know I am a minority. I watch EPT and King's Casino. King's stuff is great especially when Dara O'Kearney is commentating because you get some real analysis.

Poker Go was a huge fail to the point I won't pay for that. Note I also do not watch Live at the Bike or any other of those streamed cash games.

Surely the dopest Ethiopian is one of those long distance runners?

Ha, go back and watch 2019. The first episode picks up on day 5 with 250 players left.

Been watching, too. Some entertaining stuff.

Didn’t we have a dedicated televised poker sub forum thingy? What happened to that?

The television sub forum was merged/moved to the Casino & Cardroom Poker forum in the 2021 forum restructuring.

it's been a great watch. great vibe at the table and from the booth. enjoying the player Hanks a lot. they need to get Neymar's friend off the table tho. oh, and it's too bad they caught JRB during a period of detox
