Poker Central is excited to announce the acquisition of the global television and digital media rights to the World Series of Poker. An agreement has also been reached with ESPN to bring – for the first time – same day live coverage of the World Series of Poker from Day 1 of the Main Event until the winner is crowned.
End of an era

Live streaming of the Main from 1A forward on a 30 minute delay on both ESPN and Poker Central.

Great news all around I think. I'm guessing the main event coverage pre final table will be without hole cards though?

So will it all be live coverage? No more Norm Chad and Lon?

Nice. I hate the November 9 concept.

I thought it took away from part of the grind/momentum/run like god factor.

Thirty minute delay so I'm guessing *with* hole cards. Would think Norm and Lon are included since it's an ESPN partnership.

Good move.

Hopefully they move the entire Series to February/March.

Any idea why there's no day 3 on the schedule?

Probably an ESPN conflict. Guessing it's all PokerCentral for 3 (and 1c).

Pretty much inevitable, but still glad to see it. Of course watch - this will be the year that some hot female or mainstream interest figure makes the final table, where they might've actually benefited from the down time to build hype.

Great so it will be impossible to watch. Poker Central is notorious for making their shows literally impossible to find.

WTF, no! Why would you want this? The WSOP gets soooo many more rec players by virtue of being in the summer.

The Poker Central Press release indicates that ESPN has committed to broadcasting 40 hours of live coverage plus 130 hours of original packaged shows every year. What exactly original packaged shows consist of, I couldn't tell you. I suppose it could be the live shows repackaged but my hope would be that they take additional content that was not originally broadcast on ESPN live.

I believe Cary Katz is the big money backing this deal.

I think you over estimate what ESPN was willing to contribute going forward. You miss the news of massive layoffs?

The arrangement with Poker Central is probably quite reasonable for both parties.

Don't forget this is the last year for ESPN with the WSOP and all indications are they aren't renewing, great step to get it on twitch for the future. I'm sure it wasn't expensive at all for PokerCentral. Everyone wants the events live streamed and no one wants November 9 especially the players involved. Seems like a win win all around.
