IF

NL/PL > limit

Big equitys > small equitys (I guess it allow weaker players to make bigger mistakes)

Multiple streets > fewer

than the game seems to be NLH

Idk the answer to this. But stud is such a bizarre game. Just thinking about how to play it correctly is a total mind****.

NL Hold'em Omaha Stud is an incredibly challenging game. Rarely do you get someone who scoops the pot!

The correlation between those is unclear but I tend to think of them as negatively correlated. Losing players are most likely to go broke quickly, and more players are losing than winning (net of the rake).
  • In a high-variance game the bad players have days where they win, so some of them stay around longer.
  • In a low-variance game the bad players almost never win so more of them bust quickly.

Granted, a bad player who's running bad in a high-variance game will bust quickest of anyone, so it depends on what you mean by "people go broke the quickest in"--just a few people, or most of the player base?

The problem with questions about "skill gap" is that it's a poorly defined term.
  • If some players have 100k hours of study and play in a variant and others have never seen it that's one kind of skill gap.
  • If the worst players have 10% less expertise than the best players but that 10% is enough for them to double up or lose stacks quickly, that's a different kind of skill gap.
  • Not to mention, of course experience isn't equivalent to expertise either, as some people have been playing the same games for decades without improving.

This isn't an answer to the OP but from the recent $1500 eight game I was astonished how bad people are at limit hold 'em. They weren't great at NLHE either but in limit their fear and tendency to be happy just getting to showdown would skin them alive against a LHE pro who knows how to value bet. However a mediocre NLHE pro might skin them faster as the value bets they're missing would be a bigger proportion of the pot. I have to think that mixed game tournaments attract people who like more exotic forms of poker (as do I) and don't bother to improve in the boring two-card game.

Regarding PLO8.... it is not a sustainable cash game and is rarely spread in cash games for very long. It has all the skill gap of PLOH but the reduced variance of a split pot game. As a loose full ring game it's just a sucker game (as was stud high-low no qualifier in its day). Those who know the secret play to scoop. Those who don't play to get their money back most of the time. It's just about that simple.

Shorthanded or with tight players it's more subtle than that.

Power Up requires a lot more skill than most people here even realize.

That would be pretty impressive, given that there are only 8760 hours in the year.

Yep. 50 years full time was my heuristic. Thinking of the stud old timers although few have probably been grinding full time. So it was an intentional hyperbole but only a moderate one.

This comment intrigues me about PLO8. By "with good players" you mean in a field of entirely pretty good players, not a field with a couple of live ones, right? (As discussed above, I think loose PLO8 is a very simple game but I'm curious under what conditions it changes to be more complex.)

correct, i think PLO8 and big O are boring and simple against loose/bad players. but PLO8 against good players can often be challenging just in terms of handreading as well as looking to accomplish what (push/pull) with what hands on what boards.

and PL 2-7 triple draw just plays so insanely big and aggro players will make it play bigger in position. i've found that playing very tight works in that gametype and you can make the game play smaller if you want, but i doubt that's correct and thus less skillful.

NLHE using both your hole cards, and an all in only plays current street (if pf, only flop is showed). And it's not even close.

That is actually a POKER game, not the ******ed splash of stupid variants we see nowadays.
