Quitting poker won't suddenly make you more productive if you hate your job, something else will just fill the void.
Seriously, how is your poker "addiction" -EV? And if it's not, why are you worried about it?
This? I mean if you successfully quit poker for 4 months, it seems like you do have some self-control. Unless of course you were still constantly thinking about poker the whole time, and that's why you were so unhappy?
I don't think anyone can really answer this for OP. Only he knows how much control he really has over his thoughts/actions in regards to poker.
And if you ARE able to concentrate at work when you actually have a job you like, can have a social life outside of it, and don't lose significant amounts of money when you play, then maybe the problem isn't really with poker.
edit: I would definitely consider myself "addicted" to poker right now, I play at least some pretty much every day and think about it a lot. I've made very nice money at it though, when I'm at work I concentrate on WORK, and I made sure to set aside blocks of time for social life/other pursuits. So I definitely wouldn't say I have a "problem." I very much enjoy poker as a part of my life, which is why I work to make sure it doesn't BECOME a problem.
