OP what do you suggest ppl do? i assume most ppl jus file it out and send a video, tho i heard from some forums that going to la or wherever they have it had a tad better chance, ofc this is all for ppl who want to directly apply. If u can reply to this or pm id be interested to hear ur thoughts
My sister and I went to the open casting two years ago in San Diego. I personally think it
has to be the better way to go, though I've never sent a video in for anything. The producers and casting director were there, along with former survivor castaways, and they were on stage with a mic talking to the applicants the whole time, while we sat in an auditorium and waited for our 2 minutes in front of the camera. They give you the entire low-down before you go in to record your film -- one take, and one take only, mind you. You walk in, stand on the footprints, and they camera guy says "Go."
She did tell us that the Videographer that has been on the show (can't think of his name atm), submitted really nicely produced videos for several years before he finally sent them something from a home movie and they called him. The older woman (who was there speaking) had applied for 6 years before they called her. Sugar was there looking all cute as a button.
You'll get 2 minutes in front of a camera to say or do whatever you want. She (casting director Allison?) hates costumes, songs, and stupid human tricks. She needs people who are good storytellers (who can keep themselves engaged with the camera "solo"),
won't quit the show, have had interesting jobs/backgrounds/histories, etc.
The season with the upside-down cast (the gamer season) was a fluke, and they talked about it during this session. The show's cast is usually developed around a main set of 4-5 super-colorful people that they figure to be the "main" personalities they will follow, and everyone else in the cast is "filler" (i.e. over 30 years old). In that season (and a little in others), the "main" cast of characters was overtaken by the second string, which is how Kenny (and Cherise) ended up getting so far in the end; he and Cherise were never "intended" to go that far when they cast them as second string castaways.
If you do apply, good luck!
Cheers!
