The Poker Party is Over: What Will You Do Now? The Poker Party is Over: What Will You Do Now?

Has anyone read the book? If it is intelligently written it will be worthwhile. If this is just a guy out to make a quick buck, well I'm sure the sales will be abysmal as this is a really small niche market and word will get out if the book is good/bad.

Since black Friday I have logged more live B&M hours than I did in the previous six years of my poker career. I've played close to 3 million hands online and I'm still discovering little nuances associated w/ live play, as well as a few huge changes I've had to make to my game to adapt to the live grind.

While I do understand why contention exists between live and online players, I truly do not understand the shortsightedness of the former in not realizing how much the latter has helped the game of poker overall. Many of my friends on Facebook are either dealers and/or floors in poker rooms and this book reminds me of how all these geniuses rejoiced when Black Friday occurred. They were all so sure that the demise of online poker would help their respective poker rooms and not hurt poker at all in general. Well here we are months later and just about every poker show in America has been cancelled and unless you work in a handful of poker rooms you're struggling to start one game where a bunch of nits buy in for the table minimum, fold every hand accumulating free roll hours and never tip. The party is over, but I truly don't understand the idiots who rejoice over it.

The Internet game and the live game, though related, have very different fundamentals, not to mention all the innumerable different nuances.
LOL no they don't.

you're kidding right?

live games have such a diverse collection of (mostly donkish) playing styles. the fact that you aren't playing with very many fundamentally sound players allow you to take a lot of odd non-standard lines (to destroy the games) against certain villains that you would never do online.

online poker is poker at the macro level. live is much more micro. there are tons of little nuances. Live is primarily about maximizing HUGE edges against recreational mouth breathers. Online you're grinding out small edges against other competent players over hundreds of thousands of hands.

The players you encounter are much different; the fundamentals are not.

if by fundamentals you mean the underlying mathematical and theoretical framework behind the game, then you're correct. I was under the (perhaps faulty) assumption that people itt were claiming the two were the same thing. regardless online winners shouldn't have trouble beating the live game if they stay patient and make adjustments.

Otherwise the transition will be unbearable.

There never was a "party"... it's always been a hustle.

I mostly "rejoice" that online Casinos + their principals...
Are in a downward death spiral.

The industry views it's Customers as compete ******s...
And treats them with CONTEMPT from start to finish.

From advertising that assumes your IQ = 70...
To crapola software that still looks like 2005...
To routinely lying to you over any matter...
To giving you worthless "points" to buy complete junk...
To spamming your mailbox with total garbage...
To FAKE TV shows with the same, old sleazy hustlers...
To making you beg to withdraw YOUR money.

And I'm talking Party Gaming a LSE Public Company...
Which should be wiped off the face of the earth...
I can only imagine the hell out there on the fringes.

Occasional play...
Like visiting the Zoo or Skid Row = Great Fun...
But you must have ZERO self-respect...
To subject yourself to daily abuse of low stakes poker...
And publicly pretend to do it "for a living".

Sorry, but my point of reference is the Securities Industry...
At least you have legal rights, your money belongs to you...
And you can position yourself as House and collect rake...
As opposed to Gambler paying rake...
The difference is truly night/day between poker/trading.

If you are Top 2% with actual, real talent...
(The other 98% should forget about Zero Sum Games)...
You are gonna waste many years of your life in gaming racket.

This is the guy that wrote those weird commentaries at the end of each chapter of DUCY, no? Which in itself was a poor man's version of freakonomics, which in itself is a deeply flawed work, no?

Edit - love Sklansky's maths/gambling stuff, but lets be honest the rest of it is bollocks.
