Looks like Unibet and BetRivers have also received licenses

Quote:
For poker enthusiasts, the addition of Unibet and BetRivers could be cause for excitement — the former because it already offers poker across Canada on a globally-licensed platform, and the latter for the recent acquisition of Run It Once Poker (RIO) by its parent company Rush Street Interactive (RSI). Neither operator has announced plans for online poker in the province.

RSI’s BetRivers brand offers online casino games and a sportsbook. RSI was issued its internet gaming operator license on Wednesday, six days after news broke that it had acquired the RIO platform and onboarded its development team in a cash-and-stock deal valued at $5.8 million.

RSI said it was working with the AGCO to satisfy any remaining regulatory requirements and plans to launch BetRivers in Ontario on April 4.

“The tax rate is expected to end up at 20%, calculated by GGR,” LeoVegas said. anyone know what this is gonna mean for rake/rakeback? is that such a big number that sites will raise rake? what do other ringfence regions pay?

Gross gaming revenue (GGR), also called game yield, is a key metric used by gambling and betting companies. It reflects the difference between the amount of money players wager minus the amount that they win. It is important to note that gross gaming revenue is equivalent to “sales” or “revenue” – not “profit” or “earnings”.

Researching it a bit and it seems kind of low if true but its still 20% less money and its gotta come from somewhere (bye bye rakeback?) I hope theres competition or sites wont have any reason to give us anything back

What is seeming to be a loss of:

1) Large global pool WSOP Main Event qualifiers on GG
2) SCOOP/WCOOP/Turbo series on Stars
3) GG Misc. series with global pools

Not cool Ontario. Not Cool. It was bad enough when we lost the Americans.

I remember Black Friday sitting in a Vegas poker room with five digits still sitting in Full Tilt. Now, it might be the end of it all for tournaments for Ontario players. Good luck on the cash my friends.

What's the recommendation for withdrawing from other sites?

ASAP?

Before April 4?

Will it be no different after April 4?

With regards to GG, I have been told won't be an issue getting funds. However, if you have an agent for piece of mind I'd recommend getting as much pre-4th as possible and maybe take it in BTC etc. I know I will.

If I'm not mistaken this means that ~every Pokerstars segregated/fenced-in market now has the new rewards program...considering the GGR tax rate is pretty in line w/ these markets I think we should feel confident Stars will launch w/ the program here as well

I withdrew everything right now. I'm assuming there will be a big scramble to withdraw funds after Apr 4th when everyone hears the news too late. So I'm being proactive so that I get my money now rather than later.

Stars taking some time with my withdrawal, I only have like $5k there.

I don't even have that much on GG but I withdrew whatever I had there and got it in a day.

I did some research yesterday. the proposed 20% tax is the same as spain. spain has the same 10% or 40% chest as normal stars

If it's in line w/ these #'s, which I expect it will be, the games will almost definitely be beatable (and that's before any rakeback...the non-US sites seem to be using the new Stars VIP RB model while the US sites have the old chests models...let's hope we get the former!)
if we look at spain its still like 33% more rake while spain only gets a 20% percentage of revenue same as ontario so it seems excessive with 65% rakeback it probably wont matter tho

So, are we able to play until April 4th on the unsegregated market? If so, guess I'll play the next two Sundays as a sort of last hoorah...

Following on this, as April 3rd is the Sunday, could we still compete in any day 2s that fall on the fourth?

This would suck. I'd caution it unless you can take a Porter flight to Manitoba.

I suspect the partnership with WSOP will give GG a big advantage over Stars, especially since they're launching ahead of Stars.

Its worrysome that we heard nothing from pokerstars. Even if they keep operating in the global market there is a risk that they can randomly switch over during the month and all that rakeback equity you are saving up is just lost. So even if they keep row I dont wanna risk playing there next month because I can randomly lose 1k equity when they switch over. And I dont really want a world where ggpoker runs ontario with their shitty pvi rakeback and everyones breakeven philosophy.

Its like a week away and I still have no idea whats going on.

Also for the gg side "exisitng ggpokerplayers based in ontario can transfer their accounts to wsop.ca" but they let you have multiple accounts on different skins so what ones do we transfer over?

I'm probably going to play on 888. I think GG's rakeback structure is an absolute scam.

Yes it certainly is you have to play like 8+ tables and win daily leaderboards to get good win rates from my experiences. Seems really bad for the poker economy too I prefer the 4 table max higher winrates of stars

If I live in Ottawa, could I still play with international pools if I was to drive to Quebec? Ottawa is right beside it and I could easily commute to Quebec to play... anyone have any ideas?
