Poker hall of fame 2014 nominees announced

Negreanu nominated in first year of eligibility. John Juanda notable omission.

Not sure who Hooks is. Jack McClellan also an odd pick after he ran Bellagio tournaments into oblivion.

Re: Poker hall of fame 2014 nominees announced

pokernews.com had a profile of "Bob Hooks, forgotten road gambler" on their front page as a featured article for an inordinate amount of time last year and this year.

Re: Poker hall of fame 2014 nominees announced

Obv. DN is a shoe in and deserves to be included on his first nomination. I'd also like to see Isai Scheinberg be included in the HOF. I didn't think the timing of his inclusion made sense last year due to the cloud surrounding BF/US laws etc. But now that he's sold the company I'd love to see him included as he's done more for online Poker then any other person and by a wide margin.

Re: Poker hall of fame 2014 nominees announced

With the amount of backing/staking/swapping and piece selling, I would say it's time to get rid of the 'Played for High Stakes' rule.

This area is already covered by the 'A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition'.

I was surprised not to see Teddy the ICEMAN Monroe not on the list.

I would also add John Duthie, Matt Savage, Norman Chad, and Lon McEachern to that list.

All credibility lost

Bob Hooks over Bobby Hoff? Give me a break. Also sad to see Sklansky, Malmuth, and Caro overlooked for another year.

Why would John Duthie be on the list for the WSOP Hall of Fame when he is primarily known for starting a rival series?

Its not unusual for commentators to be inducted into a hall of fame. And to give them credit, they have been covering the WSOP since it started being televised. You may not like it, but it's probably deserved.

Re: Poker hall of fame 2014 nominees announced

DN and one of Harman/Seed makes sense

Also, +1 for Savage and Scheinberg being nominated next year

HoF in general can be dumb though, the Aussie hall of fame has more players than not that would not be profitable in a random live 10k mtt in 2014 and some broke degenerates

Poker HOF issue Matusow Forrest

With all the voting going on: Has not been much discussion about Matusow not exactly going out of his way to pay the money he still owes Forrest on the weight loss bbet 4 years later. Not exactly hall of fame material imho

Is this something you heard directly from Forest? Or do you just assume Mike didn't/couldn't play?

re: commentators

yes but in the NFL, the two best announcers from each generation are inducted. Norman Chad and Lon McEachern had a captive audience.

I would go for Joe "Stapes" Stapleton before I would go for them. Tuchmann has his moments as well.

Mike and Ted agreed on an arrangement for that bet years and years ago.

Mike has paid about 70k of the 1.8 million he owes. A similar bet was won by Mike the year before for 100k which Ted promptly paid.
