More to the point, I bet if you took a scientific but random poll or survey of 1000 + people who have no interest in poker industry but ask them a question consisting of binary choice of what is more interesting: 1) A documentary on Dr. Meh's favorite professional poker player vs. what I referred to above, you would be wrong.

Here is another example to bring the point home: Why do you think the Money Maker story is so popular? A regular Joe who enters an online satellite "only" to go against the odds and win a professional poker main event is a story about the American Dream. THAT intrigues a wider audiences' interest. But a documentary on Eric Seidel? Give me a break. YOU may like the latter better and maybe many on this 2+2 forum do too. In fact, I think Seidel is one of the best if not the best all time pro out there ever. BUT many in the non poker world will find Seidel's story as effusively boredom just like if you were watching documentaries on the best in a field you may have absolutely no interest in too.

P.S. - Shame? WTF does that even mean? This is an opinion thread. HELLO!
Moneymaker wasn’t a “regular joe” like the poker industry tried to portray him. He had a regular job but he was also a longtime hardcore gambler. They embellish the story quite a bit to appeal to the masses.

Earlier in the thread, I proposed he follow someone who knows nothing of poker and document their trials and tribulations in learning the game, playing in local tournaments, playing in international tournaments, and eventually grinding his or her way to the WSOP Main Event.

I GUARANTEE if you survey 1000 people and ask if they’d rather watch that or a “poor me” story about how some degen poker players have to cross state lines to play internet poker, 999 of them would choose my idea.

I say 999 because there’s a very small chance you would be in the group of 1000 surveyed. But everyone else would say my idea is better.

The Michael Borovetz story. Would be an interesting documentary. Even a film based on a true story would be very entertaining.
Write a screenplay, make sure there is borrowing money from the mob, which very well may be true for all I know. I am sure he has tons of funny situations. You get Nicholas Cage or Woody Harrelson to play him. You add an aging stripper role and cast Sandra Bullock or go younger with Amy Adams. Get Melissa McCarthy for daughter role and throw in Mike Tyson just because. Add Vince Vaughn as some sort of buddy of his because his movies crack me up. You of course need some famous poker players to play themselves and I will see you at the Golden Globes!

First, the part I put in bold above defines the "regular joe" pretty well. If you want to deny your contradiction, that is on you but I won't address that again.

In addition, your second paragraph especially referring to the bold about doing a documentary on that is even more boring than doing one on the overall generic biopic documentary of an established pro imo. Besides, many non - poker viewers and fans alike do not want to necessarily watch every hand of a live tournament on tv let alone all the more series of tournaments all the way up to the main event for the player in a documentary. That is, unless they lost a prop bet.
LOL. Again, poker is NOT like a major sport like boxing.

Doing a documentary on the path of Mohammad Ali from childhood to boxing legend is interesting to boxing and non-boxing fans alike. Doing a documentary on the path of Eric Seidel from his childhood to poker legend is NOT imho. Moreover, poker as a game is very boring to watch without massive editing of a single tourney's duration. You admitted you felt that way yourself in another thread you created in fact.

I am sorry. Everyone knows who Ali is. Everyone does not know nor care who Seidel is and in the survey, many will first say "Seidel who?" Hence, whether the audience has attention deficit disorder or not and even with this subject matter of yours, I still believe I am correct if a survey was taken between this suggestion of yours vs. mine.

P.S. - You guarantee? There are only 3 things in life that are "guaranteed": death, taxes, and lies.

You either don’t know what “regular joe” means or you’re delusional and think normal people are hardcore gamblers. Suppose he was a hit man but had a job, too. Would that make him a “regular joe” because he had a job? No. A regular joe is a normal everyday person and a hardcore gambler does not fit the bill. You’re wrong. Again.

I’m not sure why you’re obsessed with Erik Seidel. I never said to do a documentary on him. You go on this long rambling diatribe that has nothing to do with anything. Are you intoxicated?

Also, why would a documentary show every hand played in every tournament? The whole journey would be edited to 120 minutes. Months and months and months of footage in 120 minutes. Have you ever seen a documentary?

You are either trolling me or just incompetent at making any type of coherent argument about anything.

Good call. It was almost like a Ben Mezrich story that Mezrich didn't write.

How about nutsinho or shipit2kg? Both stories deal with similar themes that got you intrigued about Chad and Matt.

+1 to the Borovetz story

I think you got that reversed. Again, outside of this poker community, I am willing to bet that the vast majority the country does not give a flying pluck about a documentary on an up and comer aspiring no-name poker player. That is your latest idea. You wanted to move away from doing such on a pro. Fair enough. However, I believe that idea of yours sucks even more than your first idea. And for good reason (see next paragraph). But you cannot handle that. Tough.

I used as evidence subject matter like Ali that the best person in history of doing documentaries, KEN BURNS, covered. EVERYBODY is raving about that.
But somehow my argument is less cogent than yours? And I am intoxicated? LOL

Hey, many ordinary people aka REGULAR JOES gamble everyday after or before work pissing away money they cannot afford to lose. It is called the LOTTO or OTB horse racing etc. Technically, you may consider them hardcore gamblers too. But they are regular joes nonetheless. In your world, it is a SHOCKER I guess.

The Biggest Bluff is a book about a woman who knows nothing about poker but gets coached by Erik Seidel and eventually wins a major tournament. It was a New York Times bestseller. You’re wrong. Again. You don’t know what you’re talking about. Again.

And bolding random words doesn’t make your terrible argument any stronger. It actually makes you look even more unstable.

Strange….I thought you said you were done with that part of the convo. Just can’t control making terrible arguments, eh? If I recall correctly, Moneymaker lost everything sports betting and started gambling at a very young age. Not quite the same as the 9-5 family man spending a buck a day on a lotto ticket. You’re getting pretty desperate and making yourself look bad. You really should just stop.

My favorite thing when getting started in poker was the original seasons of High Stakes Poker. Might be interesting and definitely a broad scope of material to do something on the players that were there and where they are now. Where the hell is Farha?

All of sudden we're talking about books? I thought we were talking about making documentary films? Apple meet orange. Without going any further, you show no structure in consistent argumentation.

You do not only not understand the aforementioned but also what the concept of and what the word "opinion" means since you initially lambasted mine as a "shame." Again, WTF are you talking about? This is not about differing views on something serious like right and wrong, moral vs. immoral, or war vs. peace etc. From the start, you embarrassed yourself with that asinine remark.

Dude, you remind me of Pee Wee Herman. You might as well retort back with "I know you are but what am I." LOL

It was shame, not disgrace. And you got all serious and butthurt about it for some reason.

The book was a New York Times bestseller so clearly there is interest in those types of stories from non players. That’s the point I was making and that was pretty clear to anyone with an ounce of logic or reason.

You've got a few screws loose and it’s easy to see why so many people have you on their ignore list.

Good luck at the tables.

One thing you got right. It was true that I said I would stop on this particular point. But I guess like some things out there, I could not help myself. Sue me. More to the point, so now you say everyday Joe's cannot be people who lose everything in sports betting who started such at a young age. Only 9-5 family men qualify? Please keep going. Apparently, this is your world. We're all just living in it. LOL.

Shameful, Disgraceful whatever. Nice refutation there. NOT!!! Point is you labeled it as "shameful" which is still very idiotic on your part. In other words, you are acting like a plucking moron from the start. I wasn't sure from other thread. But once you said that in your initial post, it then was so confirmed. But please, by all means and continue to throw ad-hominem attacks my way. Btw, I know plenty of people who have you on their ignore list too. So what? And what does it matter? Are you a plucking child and a moron??? Those are legitimate questions.
