A light-hearted thread to make a change from the scammers and Amaya's greed.

https://www.theguardian.com/stage/20...-funniest-joke

Quote:
Cheng has spoken of the similarities between comedy and poker. “The two fields of poker and comedy actually have a surprising amount in common,” he said. “The first similarity is how both are based around a constant barrage of either extreme punishment or reward. In poker, it’s money; in comedy, it’s laughs.

“Every day you sit down at the poker table you could win or lose hundreds and, by the same notion, every time you step on stage you could kill or bomb.”
Some decent jokes in the article!

“Whenever someone says, ‘I don’t believe in coincidences’, I say, ‘Oh my God, me neither!’” Alasdair Beckett-King

I liked ... “I wonder how many chameleons snuck on to the Ark.”

Yeah, this one tickled me too, and the darker humour as well: “I wasn’t particularly close to my dad before he died ... which was lucky, because he trod on a landmine.”

Kurt Vonnegut said writing tragedy is way easier than comedy - said writing a joke is like setting up a mousetrap - it can be extremely elaborate and detailed, but without a snap the whole thing blows up in your face.

Sickest year for any comedian in history was 1994 when Jim Carrey 's movies Ace Ventura, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber all came out. Rare for an actor to have 3 smashes in one year, but a comedian?

British humor is like Tang; it needs a a large glass of water to be palatable.

Jim Carrey was always Robin Williams' heir apparent IMHO

Those other jokes are god awful, this one especially:
Quote:
“Trump’s nothing like Hitler. There’s no way he could write a book.” Frankie Boyle
He did write book, a famous one in fact about deal making. How ignorant can you be.

The Art Of The Deal was written by journalist Tony Schwartz. According to the book's publisher, Trump did no writing for the book.

The truly funny thing about the best joke at Edinburgh list is that 90% of them aren't even new.

Yes, Tim Vine, I'm talking about you. Every year.

Interview with him here:

https://www.pokerstrategy.com/news/w...-poker/101946/

Big 7-2 player and 2+2 member in turns out:

I went down the route of playing the nichest games possible, a big source of income for me was 2-7 Triple Draw, I played huge stakes for a while, not anymore as the games dried up, I used to be one of the top Triple Draw players, the highest I played was $200/$400. My screen name was ‘stryd0r’.

and

A lot of poker players can be funny, I find reading 2+2 very funny, some of the comedy threads on there are very very funny. I think there is a potential for poker players to be funny, I think it would invigorate spectator poker.

Frankie Boyle is a British comedian though and our current generation of comedians are all whining left wing virtue signallers, they have to be to appeal to the young audience here. Bring back Bernard Manning!

Funny! I played with this guy a bunch back in the day on FullTilt in 5card and primarily 6card PLO games so his story about playing the niche games checks out!

He was a good player too but comedy seems a better life choice, must be a blast.

He should easily be able to make 1 small blind per night ($200/$400) traveling the UK comedy circuit, less travel expenses, with a ~2% chance of breaking into the elite group of comedians who get on UK TV panel shows and have lucrative sold out UK stand up tours.

But at least he'll never get killed in the game although he will occasionally die on stage.
