No it would not have been, and that is not what I am saying either. What I am saying is that if if the player asks the dealer to show the "next card" instead of not doing so, or does almost literally anything else at all, then everything that follows will be different. The not-by-then-PRE-SET-things (a pre set thing would be the deck of card already in the hands of the dealer which is already fixed and won't change at that moment).
It will be the same river card of course (I know you're leveling with your statement). However, the next hand dealt will not be the same hand as if he had not asked. This shouldn't even be hard to grasp.

Remember to send me scalding PMs every time you don't bink it as well. If I had not changed the world with my post then you going out in 1059th place could have been you winning instead.
To be serious for a moment the beauty of this realization is just that, that you of course don't know all the amazing things you're missing out on from the changes (you not binking the milly that you would have binked otherwise), but you do know that all those times you "missed out" you didn't actually miss out since if you had been in it, it wouldn't have hit.
edit: I really believe knowing this could vastly improve people's experience of the world, and in extreme cases save them from some pretty crazy agony. Imagine a not-pre-set-lottery (so one where the drawing hasn't already been made. If pre-set lotteries even exist, sounds like a security risk to me). Someone once in a while always plays number 39185138. One day that hits, and they are not in the lottery. This schmuck might literally kill themselves over it. It sure would be hard on me. The thing is, of course, that if that person had entered the lottery tha time then it would (likely) have affected the drawing system to produce a whole other line of numbers. So he didn't actually miss out at all. Like the BBJ-thing that spawned my first reply on it.
