not 100% sure, but I think they are only referring to US tax ID numbers, like soc secy numbers or business ID numbers. That reg says that if no ID number is given, they must withhold taxes. Pretty sure non US residents have to have it withheld.

Because "billionaires" have better things to do.

The entire poker economy is chump change...
Compared to the money people make in business.

There are probably > 1000 people at Goldman Sachs...
Whose annual bonus was > than $8.7 million.

The only way Poker Pros get rich...
Is via real estate and business interests.

Foreign Residents of U.S. Tax Treaty Countries who provide an Individual Tax Identification Number, don't have tax withheld. ITINs are for Non-US residents.

Most functioning countries have a Tax Treaty with USA...
This is meant to avoid double taxation.

Withholding rate on trading profits, dividends, casino winnings, etc...
Can vary from 0-30% depending on what country you from.

in order to get it straight; does anyone really know the exact terms of the backing agreement? i just assume that most fine players would put a limit on the upside of the agreement. for example: for $5000 they get half your action up to $500,000. I just can't imagine a player who knows his/her way around gambling would sell any piece of themselves w/out stipulations...........b

I think you'd have a hard time finding a backer if you're going to cap what they get out of it. Would you pay $5,000 in a tournament with 6,000+ people if first place was only going to get $500,000? It just doesn't make sense to risk that much if the potential reward is going to be reduced.

I imagine that OP included the word "only" in the title because the majority of news outlets reporting this imply he won the full prize money. Not really hard to figure out.

first of all, just lol @ "only 70% of yourself"

i'd say less than 30% of the main event field had 70% of themselves or more? just quick estimate that might be way off but seems about right to me atm

I'm slow to catch up, but once I did I relished the humor. You're clearly a hot dog when it comes to subtle jokes and I hope you can muster up a few more, we'll be sure to laugh our buns off.

according to the max katz article, Pius was selling action to $1k and $1.5k events too, which makes it hard to believe he took 70% of himself in main
