With both sites catering to US players, how would a Full Tilt / PokerStars merger be good, bad, and both good and bad?

Your thoughts?

has a monopoly ever been good for the consumer?

poker is def a little different cos u have the network effects obviously but the reason stars support is so good is probably because of the need to maintain its no.1 status. maybe theyd be some super good nice monopoly, but competition is always good though 2 is the perfect number for poker

no because then they'd put hotels on boardwalk and park place and we'd all be ****ed

Would be bad because with no competition I just see the supersite slacking off and becoming careless. It is better they are seperate because they will continue to make improvements to their sites and create bigger tournaments and so on.

The best companies thrive in competition.

I don't understand why some poker players think they have an interest in a site.

If you drink Coke, would you post asking if Coke and Pepsi should merge, or McDonalds and Burger King, etc.

If you were on the board of directors of a company and wanted to see if a merger or purchase was a good piece of business for your company that would make sense. However, as a consumer/customer who has no say or influence in THEIR business it seems pointless to me. I am not trying to trash you but why would you post this?

Competition is generally very good for consumers as companies strive to deliever on price / quality.

Monopolies tend to be good in industries where there are substantial fixed costs, ie railways (no point having 2 rail tracks running side by side). Online poker has minimal fixed costs (it doesnt cost anymore to set up another online table), and so this characteristic wouldnt suggest the benefit on a monopoly.

Only if they use UB's old software (sans superusers of course). It was the best.

If they joined.

20% raked pots
Fewer MTTs
Good Bye frequent player program
Good bye good support
Less ingenuity in terms of new structures, etc.

The list goes on and on

no way. they'd just run less promotions, eliminate rakeback and increase the rake.
