If, for example, you play 24 hours straight, you probably can't play at all the next day. So it's better to put in two 12-hour plays. Same hours, but better health and focus. YMMV but you get the idea.
While this is generally true, in practice it is not true. The reason is that a great game won't last forever. If you are in one that is offering you (for example) 25BB/hr EV and you are normally a 1BB/hr winner, leaving after 12 hours will cost you 300 hours in future play - not 12. For non-degens, good games are the driver for marathon sessions.

But how do you stay clear in your head to think about ur game?
I played two days in a row, every day we played 12 hours and I was delirious. Can't imagine doing that without sleep.

Everyone think's that's sick. I'm currently attempting to break the same record in the UK, and having road block after road block in front of me. Howver, I admit that I don't have the capital to play for cash, so I'm attempting to do the same scenario as Zimbler, by playing for charity. If, in the vein hope this reaches anyone of importance, I myself would be glad to play Phil Laak, heads-up to see which of the two of us could break the record.
Just so you guys know as well, although Zimbler broke the record, Guinness don't recognise him as being the record holder, because he didn't release the records to them, so although Laak will likely go for his record, to hold the record, he doesn't actually have to beat Zimbler's time. A shame, but true none the less.

I just read the first page. Every week I used to drive 3 hours to the casino, play from Friday afternoon till Sunday evening, about 50 hours, and drive home. I played over 70 hours 8 times with my longest being 84 hours. After the mega sessions I did sleep before driving. This was limit holdem which was all that was available back in the day. When I was dragging, all I needed to get my energies back was to get dealt pocket aces. I won 6 of the 8 mega sessions.
I have since gotten over my sickness. I continue to play, but only online due to my location. (see Location) My average session online is 1 hour. I still make enough to keep myself in peanut butter.

And no drugs, including caffine.

I learned today on animal planet that dolphins actually sleep with half of their brains at a time, so they are always awake

When i was younger i put in a few 40+ hr sessions. Took a trip to vegas when i turned 21 and played at harrahs while staying at imperial palace. Played like 40 hrs after being up for around 12 before that. I found it confusing just trying to walk back to ip and its next door. I also took a restroom break around hour 3O and walked about halfway into the womens restroom before i realized my mistake. It was kinda funny to see the dealers/floor come and go and they were like "you're still here?"

another time in new orleans a local nice guy sat next to me after id been playin 1/2 nl for about 36 hrs. We played together for a few hrs and realized i wasnt quite right. He said " im going to this chinese place they got tye best egg rolls. You want 1?" i just stared at him like an idiot trying to figure out what he meant. He brouggt me 2 and they were good. I also did some really stupid stuff like folding kk face up preflop to a 3 bet all in when i convinced myself the guy had aces.( he showed jj and i started laughing). I also snap called with 88 an all in raise on a q j 3 board with 2 hearts. The guy had k 10 of hearts and somehow my hand held up but i thought man im playin bad and couldnt really think straight.

Kinda funny thinkin about all that now. Sleep deprivation plays crazy tricks with my head.

On that tv challenge programme "sleepless" some of the contestants were young fit athletic, highly motivated types but were talking to imaginary people even before the 24 hour mark. There's no way of telling how someone's mind will react - and what the hell will Laak be like if he starts babbling incoherently?

Maybe they should put Esfandiari's voice over the PA "your eyes are very heavy, you must sleep, put your head on Jennifer's chest..."

Phil Laak: After 35 or 40 hours, weird things happen. I’ve started hallucinating about floating chips before. I’ve also totally forgotten that folding was an option."

I have been working with Laak and his PR team over the last 24 hours and I will be helping them broadcast this live over the net. I know 2+2 is a bit tight on security so don't want to get into trouble with links but I am sure you will be able to find it if looking. It will be on a few sites that I know of so far and is available to any others that want to post the feed. Feel free to PM me as long as I don't get into any trouble with 2+2
