Re: Phil Laak to attempt World Record Session

**** it, Phil. Might as well just keep going, make this the sickest ever, amirite?

I mean, what goal is there now, number wise? He's now just doing it for the sickness factor, it's almost like he wants to experience something strange, or push that limit. I would have thought 100 or the prime number of 101 would have been it. He may just go until something really weird happens.

Re: Phil Laak to attempt World Record Session

Phil is using a nutritionist to prepare meals that help his sugar and insulin levels be exactly right.

Also, unless he has a good grip on polyphasic; then sleeping at all, even for 5 minutes, is gonna ruin any endurance he has left.

He was eating B-12 vitamins like 40 hours in

Re: Phil Laak to attempt World Record Session

Props to him if he really has had no sleep whatsoever but he banks his 5 min breaks for every hour and that equals 2 hours per 24. Its totally possible to do this with 1.5 hour a day sleep. He was gone earlier for 75 min to go up to his room presumably to take a nap. If you are setting a record for holding your breath under water you cant come up halfway through for a gasp of air. Just like if you are setting a record for this you shouldnt be allowed any sleep.

Re: Phil Laak to attempt World Record Session

Sleep is not allowed. Period.
He went jogging and got a shower in that 75 minutes.
And 1.5 hours of sleep a day is 100x's harder than 0 hours of sleep in a day.

edit: RealPhilLaak

Dr Rosenburg came by 2 hours ago - I am told blood pressure and all other vitals in perfect condition.

Agreed. But unlike a record-setting attempt at holding one's breath, Laak should be permitted to bank time in the event he needs to drop a digger.

Grunched a bit and it may have been covered, but is Phil allowed to shower during this record? If not, I feel bad for those sitting to his immediate left and right.

And you would know because....?

That's the most ******ed comment ever. 1.5 hours is exactly one full sleep cycle, and getting one full sleep cycle every 18 hours makes staying up for extended periods of time waaayyyy easier than not sleeping at all.

I've stayed up without sleeping at all for 60 hours before, and I've been up several days with very little sleep (less than 2 hours a day) and trust me, even though I stayed up much longer in the second case, it was a lot easier with at least some sleep.
I never even considered counting that as a "staying up" record.
If anything, playing poker makes it even easier since it's something to focus on without straining his brain, given the stakes.
If he were playing HSP with 200k on the table for that long, he'd collapse way before.
10/20 for someone with his BR and experience doesn't even count as using your brain, it's a complete cruise, just enough to keep him awake.
Cool guy either way, albeit seriously annoying, but don't let him fool anyone into believing this is a world record...

i pay attention.

and

i have more experience in sleep deprivation than i care to admit. 1.5 hours of not moving ur body often enough allows for the body to wanna shut down quicker. but whatever.

Again.. still completely 1000% wrong.

whatever is right.

I actually did a weakened version of this, this weekend. Got up at 1pm on Friday afternoon (I work night shift, fell asleep at 8am). I was up until 6:00am Saturday morning. I got exactly 2 hours sleep as my daughter came in the bedroom and woke me up, that and I had the alarm set for 8:30am anyway to watch USA-Australia soccer match. So awake for 17, slept for 2,.. Spent all day at an amusement park and didn't tire enough to fall back asleep until 4am the next morning (then getting back up at 8 sunday morning)

I stayed up 20 hours without a problem after getting 2 hours of sleep..

I've done 21+ hours on 2-3 hours sleep on back to back to back days numerous times. I once fell asleep driving and wrecked my car when I was up 30 hours straight. I NEVER feel like falling asleep behind the wheel if I get a couple hours sleep in between.

1 1/2 hour sleep is a 100 times better than no sleep in a endurance test like this. Rant all your bull**** "sleep expert" crap you want, you don't know what the hell you are talking about.
