I don't see why he would have to go without sleep to accomplish this. I've taken down SNGs while intermittently sleeping between hands. The "beep" from the software wakes me up. Given that live poker is slower, one could get even more sleep. Someone would just need to press his wake button.

Also - not to say that Laak uses it, but can he use Adderall? I would think this is super-easy if someone did it with whole bunch of Adderall or Modafanil.
You cannot be serious...

What really sucks is David Blaine will get paid millions to break this record and dumbasses will watch the end on TV.

Guinness doesn't track sleep deprivation records because they don't want to encourage people to attempt it because of the health risks.

For those saying that it's dangerous, you cannot die from lack of sleep. The examples about people dieing after epic WoW sessions are the result of dehydration coupled with exhaustion. Occasional periods of exhaustion (even extreme...like 78hrs of poker) alone will not kill or permanently hurt anyone so long as they make sure to get an appropriate amount of fluids/nutrients. Death from lack of sleep is medically impossible.

Wow. 78 hrs is the record? I know at least 2 guys who have done over a hundred, one of whom has done it at least 5 times. Not lying btw.

Should be interesting to see him after 70 hours when the brain releases DMT. From my understanding although you haven't slept your brain releases chemicals during the REM process of your sleep and since you are still awake you witness very very strong hallucinations. I wouldn't be suprised if he lost a good portion of whatever remaining money he has in his stack in the last couple hours due to the DMT. Either way best of luck to him.

I actually thought I read in a Card Player a few years ago about Ted Forrest logging in 100 hour sessions nonstop.

Interview with Michael Mizrachi:

"What’s your longest-ever poker session?
My longest session was actually at The Mirage -- I played for 75 hours. This was at a $6/$12 Limit-Hold’em game about five or six years ago. I was drinking a lot of strawberry daiquiris to keep me awake, lots of sugar. I was just running really well and making a lot of money, so I didn’t want to leave. Everyone was worried, wondering where I was. I turned up three days later, with my mother demanding to know where I’d been. I went straight up to bed and passed out for a long, long time… The longest session I’ll ever play now is around 10 hours.

Cigarettes can't kill you either, it's the cancer that gets you!

Pretty sure Ted Forrest did a 125 hour session about 5 years ago. He also wasn't allowed to leave the table for the first 35 hours.

Yeah isn't it reasonably common knowledge / verifiable that Ted Forrest used to have "death matches" which were 100 hours long?

When I was 17 me and another guy stayed up for 6+ days once in a Dunkin Donuts the entire time on a bet. Hallucinations kick in after like 4.5 days but you stop feeling tired and started feeling like you took mescaline. It also weakens your immune system as my friend developed encephalitis right after and fell into a coma for a few days.

Three days is a cakewalk as far as staying up. Playing winning poker is a different story, I'm sure people will be lining up to play at whatever table he is at after the first 48.

If this is a fact, why would he do this the same month as the WSOP starts? I don't think he'll be playing his 'A game' during this years event! Not a good move IMO.
