My Ivey story: I stopped in Vegas on a road trip from AZ to CA during the 08 WSOP. My friend and I were walking around the Rio checking out the action (I think the 7 card stud event was in the early stages). We stop at a table with Ivey and Eric Lindgren at it and rail for a while. Some people are asking Ivey for autographs and such and he's pretty cordial. I'm a little buzzed and decide that I'd always kick myself if I didn't try and gamble with Ivey. He folds his hand and I spot on opportunity. I walk up to him and say, "Hey Phil, hate to bother you, but you want to play Rock, Paper, Scissors best two out of three for $100 real quick?" He thinks for a second before muttering, "Nah, not while I'm playing." I'm like, "Okay, sorry for bugging you," and start to walk away. Then he smirks and says, "You must know something I don't." I joke back, "Yeah, I heard your roshambo game was pretty weak." He chuckles and goes back to playing. The End.

Would have been a lot better story if he'd played, but that's what happened.

Me: 44
Him: ?

From the button i call a standard raise and Ivey comes along also from the BB.
Flop comes KcQc9s, and initial raiser checks from early position and so do i.
Ivey bets out Pot which was prolly like 6$ at this point, making it a total of 12$
EP dude folds and i pop Ivey for my remaining 18$.
Ivey tanks then folds.
I show my 44 and he types "Nice Play"
I can die happy.

It's kinda sad when that's the highlight of ur poker career, but maybe that's a small reason why i can totally identify with the OP here.

FWIW, this was usually his wife or other family member playing. I guess that all stopped when the notion of you playing against somebody other than who was behind the red name became much more of a big deal.

Would it be awkward to take the gummy bear and put it in your pocket?

I was playing my first series in 05. I had signed with FTP a few months before and was making sure to say hello to everyone that I hadn't met in AC, just to be nice. FTP had a suite that year right across from the tournament room so I was hanging out there on one of the breaks. I was walking back to the tournament and saw that Ivey (who was in the room with me) was walking back also. I said "hey Phil, I'm Aaron Bartley".

He looked at me with a blank stare.

"....GambleAB".

He takes a beat, and does me a favor by pretending to know who I am, "oh yeah....GambleAB....Aaron Bartley...."

alright me and my friend were at the WPT champ in 07 both of us were playin online and a big game was running. phil bust the dude and the rail goes nuts so i say "PHIL ILL GIVE U 5 DOLLARS IF U SAY HI" he immed says "hi xxx" and i transfer the 5

next day hes playing the ME right by bobbys room, me and a friend go to the cage to get chips and see him playin. we stand like 2 feet over his left sholder and he glances over at me (im 6'8) and looks at me and gives me the up and down (i blush) but then he notices that i have a button up, jeans and nike sandals on..... he the gives me the phil ivey stare. we both start laughing cause we both noticed it

30 seconds later a guy comes up and says "yo phil i need to talk to you" or somethin like that. so i thought it would be a good idea to say "dude you need to give him 5 bucks if you want him to respond".... and phil give me the stare again and the other dude looks at me like im a joke while my buddy is just cracking up

My favorite Ivey quote, referring to 800k he won betting during the superbowl.

Quote:
Phil: yeah I broke even, I won about 800 total.
Barry G: Did you break even or win 800 total?
Phil: whats the difference?
