I don't know, if this isn't a sock account I just find it incredibly weird that you have been registered since 2002 and have only made 15 posts. And this is one of them.

Great thing about playing at the Hustler here in LA, the $1/$2NL tables where us plebians play are right next to Larry's big game 7-card stud table. Playing my low stakes game 5 feet away from Phil Ivey makes it really fricken cool.

i'm still a huge ivey fanboy anyway, but my one experience playing with him was really disappointing

in 6 max wsop event he got moved to my direct right, then openlimped the cutoff when i was on the button FOUR times, all four times i raised... the first two he folded, the third he called and check/folded the flop, and the fourth he folded again...

this wasn't even first level or anything either, it was like 200/400/ante or something, it was pretty ridiculous

i think it was a day or two after the lakers got knocked out, and towards the end of the series so he was drawing thin on all his prop-bets, and was probably depressed...

but it was still so disappointing, i mean he's one of the guys that is such a hero you don't even want the honour of outplaying them, you want them to actually be godlike to further your faith in what human beings are capable of

i can honestly say that i hope to play with him again this year and that he has his A game going and wtfpwns me along with everyone else

At the EPT London in 2006 the tourney went on break and everyone piled toward the bar to get a cheeky drink in before the restart. Ivey struts up to the nearby roulette table and throws down about £5k in chips on various numbers. The number comes up and Ivey walks away. Only 3 or 4 people were watching this, and I was standing there omfg'ing at how ****ing cool he is.

People try to bluff him but never in good spots and they always end up in some ****ed position vs. him facing some ridiculous spot and raise.

I'm probably getting these stories confused cuz one was Mastr in LA and one was JC Alvarado, don't know where so forgive for mixing details. Anyone one of them was at some aggro talkative table. Ivey walks up and everyone just stops talking and looks scared. For the rest of the day, everyone is just staring at Ivey, watching him. He really has an aura, like everyone just watches everything he does and immediately looks away if they come close to making eye contact.

He just plays every hand and tramples people, in between hands he slouches in his chair and texts away, occasionally throwing chips into the pot while texting. Cuz who the **** is gonna break out the rule book on him anyway?

At some point this big black dudes walks up to him and hes carrying a buncha bags and he gives them to Ivey and leaves. Ivey pulls a belt out of one and just puts it on. Keep in mind literally every person at the table is staring at him all the time, and most of the people who aren't in a hand in a close proximity.

He takes his watch off, this $80k watch, opens the bag, and pulls out some lotion. And he puts lotion on his wrist where he was wearing the watch. Slowly applying it while everyone watches transfixed. Then he puts the watch back on, goes back into a bag, and grabs a thing of gummy bears and starts putting them in his mouth. Then he turns his head and looks my friend right in the eye, as though just noticing that everyone in the room is staring at him and never even considering that he was doing an abnormal thing. And he pulls a gummy bear out, holds it up to him, and goes "ya want one?"
lol this is awesome

Whatever, you're obviously entitled to your own vibe. It just struck me as really odd and then in combination with this thread figured I'd let you know.
so did you accomplish your obvious mission to try and make yourself feel "cooler" by letting him know this?

For how universally revered and respected Phil Ivey is, I've never heard many interesting anecdotes about him.. Perhaps this is due to his private and standoffish nature

I was thinking that as well, he seems like some sort of poker playing robot. But then you see him interact with other pros on TV and he almost seems like a kid.

might not be an interesting story, but here is my phil ivey encounter:

wsop last year, some 1500-3k nlh event. i don't have a lot of chips left. someone busts at our table a few seats to my right and a little while later a floorperson comes over acting like a ***** schoolgirl and tells us we are getting someone special. a few minutes later i look up and Phil Ivey is walking over to the table with an entourage of floor guys while everyone stares as he walks past. One guy brings him to his seat and is trying to make small talk with Phil, acting like they are good buddies that will be going out for a drink after the tournament. Phil is showing limited response, and when he sits down at the table he gives a look to the general direction of the rest of the table like who the f is that guy what a loser. We all laugh.

Now I don't know about you guys, but whenever I've played a wsop tournament and get a seat change, they give me the little thing that says where my new seat is, I pick up my chips myself and search through the ***** zoo to find my new seat. An exception is if you have to move far and have a ton of chips that are tough to carry by yourself, then a floorperson will help you. So as Phil walks over I'm thinking these floorguys are carrying his massive stack. Phil Ivey with a big stack to my right, that should be fun to watch and also good for maybe a nice double up if he's opening every pot...

When he sits down, he sets down his stack, which is a small handful of chips. He has less chips than I do. lol. other than owning the floorguy's life with his eyes, he says and does nothing, and as I remember it no one else speaks either. He looks generally kinda annoyed to be there. he keeps his stack the same maybe losing a bit, I increase mine slightly. Then, it comes to him in LP, and he shoves his small stack all in. folds to me i look down at 55, i go all in over top. he has A5o, I hold up. as soon as the river is dealt, he gets up without looking or speaking to anyone and walks quickly out of the room. later i would print off the cardplayer update of the hand. the end.
